100 Days of American Self-Destruction
Do we feel great again? Of course not. In less than 100 days, the toxic stupidity, cruelty, & racism of Trump have infected the country & the world, threatening to ruin alliances & the global economy.
In less than 100 days, Donald Trump, a convicted criminal who was held liable for assaulting and defaming a woman and has a track record of six bankruptcies, has managed to nosedive America’s reputation and economy.
A picture is worth a thousand words, friends.
(Trump falling asleep at Pope Francis’s funeral)
Trump didn’t make America great again, but he seems to have single-handedly revived the liberal party in Canada, which was dead in the water. Thank you, Trump, who is allegedly America First, for threatening to make our once-trusted ally and economic partner into the 51st state.
Speaking of allies, those are long gone due to Trump’s reckless and destructive trade war and tariffs that might bring about a global recession. The heads of Wal-Mart and Target warned Trump recently that his disastrous economic policy (could there be any other kind?) would leave American shelves empty by the summer. Well, the empty port in Seattle today portends bad news ahead.
Unfortunately, it’s mostly been bad news. Trump is currently underwater across the board, even on immigration, as Americans are slowly waking up to realizing they’ve been conned by a conman who promised to make them “feel” great again at the expense of the rule of law, the Constitution, human rights, and decency. The only thing he’s succeeded at is having the lowest 100-day approval rating in 80 years, beating the previous record he set during his first Administration.
All of this could have been avoided if just enough Americans had voted for a competent Black Indian American woman. However, masochism, misogyny, and racism are still very popular kinks that are sanitized by the corporate media. At the pathetic and groveling White House Correspondents’ Dinner over the weekend, the mainstream media’s remoras assembled to engage in mutual verbal fellatio and enjoy the “glam” during the ascent of fascism. The institution that is famous for hosting a comedian at the annual “nerd prom” fired Amber Ruffin to appease the fragile, fickle ego of MAGA, who dispense cruelty but demand civility. A cameraman at the event repeatedly couldn’t tell the difference between two Black female journalists, April Ryan and Yamiche Alcindor.
This tracks considering the #1 goal of this Trump Administration is to purge “DEI” (Black people, people of color, immigrants, feminists, and LGBTQ+) from the government and private institutions. Not content with deleting webpages, banning books, and firing competent Black and female government employees, the Trump Administration is trying to remove exhibits from the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture.
Maybe it’s economic anxiety. Or, maybe, it’s the white supremacy, hate, cruelty, and bigotry.
If you’re still on the fence, over the weekend, the Administration announced it had deported three citizen children, one with Stage 4 cancer, to Honduras. You can be shocked and horrified, but you can’t be surprised. In October, Border Czar Tom Homan, concrete in human form, openly told us on 60 Minutes he would deport children with their undocumented parents. Meanwhile, 60 Minutes, like so many institutions, has decided to bend the knee to Trump’s bad-faith bullying and lawsuits, forcing the resignation of their long-time producer Bill Owens, who alleged editorial interference.
Maybe Democrats should, you know, fight back?
If you’re an alleged “centrist” like Senator Slotkin, that means catering to civility and echoing right-wing talking points that attack the “woke.” Or, you can be Governor Gavin Newsom and try to win over MAGA bros by inviting them on your podcast, throwing transgender people on the bus, and letting them spew nonsense without pushback. Thankfully, others are promising to fight back, and they’re being rewarded. As the world’s worst billionaire and right-wing influencers plot their supervillain Bond plot on an incestuous Signal chat, another billionaire, Governor Pritzker of Illinois, has decided to boycott El Salvador for being Trump’s foreign gulag. Instead of catering to the tepid, performative civility of Senator Schumer, Pritzker called for mass protests over the weekend and declared, “Republicans cannot know a moment of peace,” and said their portraits will be put in museums, “reserved for tyrants and traitors.”
This month has been the worst “I told you so” of my lifetime. I have gained no smug satisfaction or joy from hearing my skeptical neighbors, friends, and colleagues come back to me and say, “OK, you were right. Trump is terrible.” It has only been 100 days. We’re stuck with this corpulent vulgarian for another four years. As MAGA and Trump become more unpopular, they will, in turn, become more fascist and desperate.
It’s all hands on deck, and if you aren’t willing to fight, then make room for those who will.
On this episode of Democracy-Ish, Danielle and I share our thoughts, hopes, and fears for what’s in the pipeline during the rest of Trump’s terrible term. Give us a watch!

You claim you’re a genius at business and deals,
But your record shows failures that truth now reveals.
Six casinos went bust, left in debt’s bitter grip,
Yet you sailed through the wreckage, your wealth didn’t slip.
Your “university” scammed, took millions, then fell,
Closed in shame, with lawsuits that you settled to quell.
Yet you’d lecture great Harvard, their wisdom renowned?
Your hubris, not wisdom, is all that’s been found.
Your first hundred days brought chaos, bans, and strife,
No triumphs, just turmoil, you rolled the dice.
Twice impeached, still you screech, we demand a new reach,
To Congress we call: hold him accountable, impeach
We will need “I told you so” fatigue support groups… especially when shelves are empty.
