Pardon me for the late-night post, but a flurry of news items came my way, and I felt compelled to comment.
First, if you weren’t convinced by now that the Supreme Court was a thoroughly compromised institution populated with right-wing hacks in black robes, then I give you their latest ruling allowing Alabama to use its racist AF map. Quick reminder: this was the gerrymandered map that lower courts said intentionally discriminated against Black voters. But, hey, that’s all good for the Supreme Court, because who cares about the Constitution anymore, right? It’s all about ensuring that Republicans can have minority rule and hasten the return of white militia Jesus.
Second, CBS News is hastening its irrelevance and demise with the late-night firing of veteran anchor and 60 Minutes Correspondent Scott Pelley. In a tense meeting with Nick Bilton, the new head of the storied news magazine, Pelley reportedly accused Bari Weiss of “murdering 60 Minutes” and called out Bilton’s utter lack of experience. He also questioned the firing of recent colleagues who tried to maintain a modicum of journalistic independence after the Ellison takeover, which is aimed at promoting Israel, billionaires, and the Trump Administration. Earlier today, Pelley sent a statement to the NYT criticizing the new leadership’s “incompetence and unprofessionalism,” which he wrote has “wreaked havoc,” and further chided them for “the collapse of values.”
Well done, Scott Pelley. You can leave with your head held high. History will remember you well. Bari Weiss, Bilton, and the Ellisons? Not so much.
Meanwhile, the Trump Administration’s leading henchman, acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, announced that they will not be funding a $1.8 billion terrorist slush fund to pay out violent insurrectionists. However, the IRS will not pursue any audits against Trump or his family, because they’re totally not covering up anything corrupt or shady.
One violent insurrectionist who was convicted for his illegal actions on January 6th was rewarded with a plum counterterrorism job despite having no qualifications. That’s like enlisting the Hamburglar to go after other Hamburglars. It tracks because our next Director of National Intelligence will most likely be Bill Pulte whose only qualifications for the extremely important job of overseeing 17 intelligence agencies are living in Trump’s anus and attacking all of his enemies.
Finally, we’re looking at the incoming primary results. I finished this video before we got word from California. Still, at least Dr. Hamawy won big in New Jersey, which is remarkable due to his bold, progressive platform and the blitzkrieg of ugly Islamophobic attacks launched against him in the past week.
