There’s no need to waste our time with anodyne, milqutoast, centrist language that has been focus-tested with Trump voters to make our point.
We’re just going to be blunt.
ABOLISH ICE.
That’s it.
This is a rogue, lawless, murderous agency that is terrorizing our streets and murdering innocent people with impunity.
In the past week, they killed two people simply for existing while brown.
This includes Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a Mexican national, who lived in the U.S. for nearly three decades and was driving to a job site with his construction crew in Houston. This includes 26-year-old father Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero, who worked as a cleaner and food delivery driver in Biddeford, Maine. This also includes a 28-year-old Mexican national who was fatally struck by a tractor-trailer while running from ICE agents in St. Augustine, Florida, yesterday.
If you think brown and Black people are the only targets, I remind you of the murder of Renee Nicole Good, a white mom, and Alex Pretti, a white man. Instead of punishing ICE, Trump’s corrupt DOJ is instead investigating Good’s widow and spreading lies that she was a “domestic terrorist.” They also lied that Araujo tried to ram his vehicle into ICE agents. Conveniently, their body cams were turned off, but we all saw the video of ICE executing Good and Pretti.
How much more of this will America tolerate until we say enough? How many more people must die? Sadly, I believe the answer is many more.
Jenn Budd, a former Border Patrol agent and whistleblower, wants us to step back and acknowledge that this is how ICE has always operated. This is the status quo and not an aberration. This lawless agency has been supported and funded by both Republicans and Democrats. It’s a reflection of a thoroughly corrupt system that targets immigrants and poor people of color to prove that it’s “tough on crime” while doing nothing to hold billionaires and the Epstein class accountable.
ABOLISH ICE. That’s it. That’s the litmus test and one of the major moral tests of our lifetime. If you don’t believe me, well, at least listen to Jenn, who was part and parcel of a corrupt, oppressive system that she’s now trying to dismantle.
