An ICE Agent Is Finally Being Held Accountable. There Must Be More Accountability.

Earlier today, an ICE agent was charged with two felony counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon for allegedly pointing a gun at two individuals while driving on Highway 62 in Minneapolis.

There is an active warrant for the agent’s arrest.

ICE and Border Patrol agents have a long, sordid history of violence, criminality, sexual assault, and illegal drug use. However, they continue to operate without oversight because local and state authorities have rarely held them accountable.

The Trump Administration has unleashed ICE agents as its personal Gestapo to terrorize Americans, sending agents to cities, schools, and now airports. Instead of investigating the murder of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti, they’re busy smearing them and covering up the crime.

Meanwhile, Trump cronies, such as Italian American businessman and Melania’s former “modeling agent,” Paolo Zampolli, abuse ICE for their personal benefit. Zampolli had the mother of his child, former model Amanda Ungaro, deported to Brazil to gain custody of their child. Earlier today, an 85-year-old French widow who married her American G.I. sweetheart was arrested by ICE due to her stepson, who abused his influence with the agency to gain favor during a nasty inheritance battle.

People are finally fed up with this lawless agency that has terrorized Black, brown, and Muslim communities for more than two decades. In Maryland, hundreds of protestors rallied against ICE on Wednesday as a federal judge limited construction on a planned immigration detention center. Today, a majority of Americans embrace abolishing ICE.

However, we are repeatedly told by both Republicans and Democrats that we “need” ICE and Border Patrol, and it would only help criminals if we were to abolish these corrupt agencies. That’s all bullshit, according to whistleblower and former Border Patrol officer Jenn Budd, who has written a timely, necessary 72-page book entitled “What Everyone Needs to Know About ICE.”

In clear, easy-to-understand language, Budd explains how ICE, CBP, and Border Patrol operate, their culture and leadership of violence, why state and local officials refuse to punish them for their sins, and how we, the people, can abolish these broken, criminal agencies.
