You should all care about Bari Weiss becoming the editor-in-chief of CBS News. The 41-year-old former NYT editor has no experience running a TV network, but she has spent her entire career catering to the privileged laments of billionaires, punching down against “the woke,” whitewashing Israel’s war crimes, and trying to cancel pro-Palestinian activists.
Edward Murrow and Walter Cronkite would weep if they were alive to see their once respected home occupied by the most mediocre, venal, and cruel individuals who demand civility but give cruelty and use free speech as a sword against the truth and the most marginalized.
David Ellison, the nepo baby of billionaire Larry Ellison, who runs Paramount, just wildly overpaid Weiss $150 million to buy her blog, The Free Press. His father, Larry Ellison, just bought TikTok and has his eyes set on Warner Bros/Discovery, which controls CNN and HBO. Larry Ellison is one of the largest single donors to Israel and is a major Trump supporter and right-wing Zionist.
Over the weekend, Van Jones went viral for going on Bill Maher’s show and mocking dead Palestinian babies that show up on TikTok feeds. The broligarchy loathes dissenting opinions that upset the establishment or their pet causes. With Bari Weiss, they have their own Luca Brasi, who will continue her crusade against “the woke.” Meanwhile, over at The Free Press, she’s handing the reins to Adam Rubenstein, who infamously edited Tom Cotton’s 2020 NYT essay advocating for troops to quash the overwhelmingly peaceful BLM protests.
In this Substack Live, I take the Delorean back to 2020 when I was a contributing op-ed writer at the NYT. I share receipts of my time with Bari Weiss and how the broligarchy’s crackdown on “the woke” has directly led to Weiss’s ascent at CBS and what it means for the future of news, information, and corporate media.
I hope it’s helpful.
