Caliph Mamdani's Islamic Socialist Republic of New York And Other Wonderful Delusions

Fellow Muslim American commentator Qasim Rashid joins me to dismantle the hyperbolic hate machine against Zohran Mamdani and discuss how the Democratic leadership must accept its progressive base.
Mamdani, in emotional speech, decries Islamophobia in New York City mayor's race - ABC News

If you only live in the right-wing media bubble, you probably think that New York just transformed into the Islamic Socialist Republic ruled by Caliph Zohran Mamdani.

Miniskirts on Park Avenue have been replaced with hijabs and niqabs, the gay community of Chelsea is all in conversion therapy, Jews have fled to Israel for refuge, halal meat has replaced pork, and bidets are now available in every single public washroom. (To be frank, universal bidets would be an amazing contribution, but I digress.)

None of these wild, hyperbolic, Islamophobic fears have manifested after Mamdani’s historic victory against disgraced, Establishment hack Andrew Cuomo. Regardless, the hatemongers persisted. ADL’s Jonathan Greenblatt has launched a “Mamdani Monitor” to protect Jews from his alleged anti-semitism, but remains mum about the rise of neo-Nazis in the GOP. Senator Chuck Schumer refuses to embrace Mamdani but had no problem hugging war criminal Netanyahu. The broligarchy continues to melt down, fearing that New Yorkers will tear down Wall St and replace it with a Communist Utopia.

Instead, Mamdani’s victory gives the majority much-needed hope that there is a possibility for change and reform. An outsider, an immigrant, a Muslim, a Democratic socialist won by campaigning on affordability for everyone, and he did it without throwing the marginalized under the bus. He also refused to hide his identity and instead embraced it as an example of how the celebration of diversity, or wokeness, is indeed what makes America great.

Unfortunately, the establishment would much rather burn everything down than accept that the youth have moved beyond restoration and demand reformation, no longer satiated with crumbs and a life in which they barely get by with scraps.

I invited fellow Muslim American Qasim Rashid, host of Let’s Address This, to discuss why Mamdani’s victory is meaningful and predict how the Establishment will try its best to undermine his political career. We also indulge in some cheeky Muslim humor to troll the haters, because, honestly, they deserve it.
