Can Progressives Save the Democratic Party and America?

The main priority of "centrist" Democrats, funded by corporate money, is to weaken the progressive wing of the party. Saikat Chakrabati, co-founder of Justice Democrats, sees another path forward.

While the world burns due to Trump and Israel’s reckless war with Iran, as income inequality widens thanks to corrupt broligarchs, and grocery prices remain unaffordable, “centrist Democrats” and their corporate donors’ most important priority is to weaken progressives ahead of the 2026 elections.

According to Axios, “Third Way, an influential center-left group, is bringing together hundreds of elected officials, party leaders and operatives here this weekend to build a case for nominating a middle-of-the-road Democrat — not a liberal — for president in 2028.”

Meanwhile, Senator Chuck Schumer remains more comfortable taking photos with war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu than Zohran Mamdani. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries continues taking money from AIPAC and funneling it surreptitiously to primary races to defeat surging progressive candidates.

Instead of condemning the war with Iran as illegal, both Schumer and Jeffries seem more upset that they weren’t consulted first, having worked tirelessly last week to spike a bipartisan resolution that would call for a public vote on a war.

To make it all worse, the chosen white knight, Gavin Newsom, refuses to embrace taxing billionaires, and Silicon Valley has spent millions on Democrats to promote pro-AI policies. But “abolish ICE” is too controversial for these Dems even as masked, armed agents continue killing and terrorizing Americans.

However, the rest of us can never complain. We must simply stay quiet and “vote Blue matter who” and never publicly criticize these failed policies, even though Democrats lost the 2020 and 2024 elections and have a historically low favorability rating.

Saikat Chakrabati has been trying to shake up and reform the Democratic Party for the past decade, having left his successful career in Silicon Valley to co-found the Justice Democrats, launch AOC’s political career, and then serve as her chief of staff. Now, he’s running for Nancy Pelosi’s seat in California. He believes the only way to combat authoritarianism and change a corrupt and ossified system is to replace “corporate” Democrats and cull the party.
