Donald Trump was The Democrats' October Surprise.

Kamala Harris's pathway to becoming the first female President was aided in part by the numerous missteps & blunders of Donald Trump who self-destructed due to his innate cruelty, bigotry, & misogyny.

In the end, Democrats didn’t need to unveil an “October Surprise” to help Kamala Harris. They could rely on Donald Trump being himself, a man who remains his worst enemy and couldn’t help but step on rakes every day leading up to the election. He’s going down, just like he did on the microphone.

This should not surprise or shock anyone paying attention to Trump’s behavior, actions, and rhetoric over the past decade. The man is a walking chaos agent whose vomitorium of lies, cruelty, and grievances define his petty vulgarity. A racist can only be ugly and hateful towards people of color and immigrants and refer to them as “invaders” and “rapists.” A misogynist can only mock and ridicule women and say he will protect them, “whether they like it or not.” An anti-semite can only blame Jews if he were to lose the election. An authoritarian can only hope for violence against the press and threaten to unleash the military against U.S. citizens. A vulgarian can only perform fellatio on a microphone at a public rally that has children and families.

This is who Donald Trump is and who he has always been.

He is a convicted criminal, a twice-impeached charlatan, a fraudster, and a man who has been held liable for sexual assault against E. Jean Carroll. He has no discipline, no restraint, and no ability to rise above his base impulses. He’s pure unrestrained id who can’t help but “grab women by the pussy” and “f*** his friends’ wives” according to his “closest friend” Jeffrey Epstein. He cannot even pretend to act like a civilized, decent human being even as he’s drifting in the polls and about to lose a consequential election.

After his campaign made the fatal mistake of vetting and allowing Tony Hinchcliffe to offend Puerto Ricans at his Madison Square Garden rally, Trump responded by saying it was “not a big deal.” In an act of political malpractice, he then decided to go FULL DUKAKIS and dress up as a garbage man and barely step into a garbage truck to add insult to injury to millions of Puerto Ricans and Latinos still reeling from the “floating island of garbage” comment. Instead of unifying the country, he said his critics are “horrible people,” “sick,” and “evil.”

Republicans have recently tried to distance the party from Hitler and the Nazis, so Trump decided to quote Hitler’s “enemy from within” line to describe his critics. This is in addition to him spreading neo-Nazi conspiracies about Haitian immigrants eating pets and using Hitler’s line about immigrants “poisoning the blood” of the country and having bad genes and bloodlines. To avoid subtlety, Trump thought it would be brilliant to give a platform to budget Goebbels Stephen Miller to address the MSG crowd with the line, “America is for Americans and Americans only.” Nazis used to say, “Germany is for Germans and Germans only.”

Trump’s refusal to concede the 2020 election and his incitement of a violent insurrection is still fresh in the minds of many undecided voters, such as 56-year-old Latino worker Ramiro Gonzales, who asked Trump to win back his vote by showing some remorse for his actions on January 6th. Of course, Trump refused to do that and instead gaslit the crowd by saying “nobody was killed.” The camera panned to the look of three disgusted and appalled Latino women who folded their arms. Just yesterday, perhaps upon realizing his dreams of entering the Oval Office and escaping accountability for his numerous crimes were slipping away, Trump said he “shouldn’t have left” the White House in a Pennsylvania rally. This is the same man who also said he wants to be “dictator for a day” and “terminate the Constitution.” His Project 2025 reveals the blueprint for right-wing authoritarian rule and Republicans thought it would be a brilliant idea to release it online for the world to see.

Trump was the emperor who had no clothes. We all knew it. Even Republicans, before they became Reeks, criticized Trump as a “flawed,” “unfit,” “unhinged,” bat shit crazy,” “bigot.” I’m referring to Ted Cruz, Lindsey Graham, and Nikki Haley. Right-wing commentators like Ben Shapiro, Megyn Kelly, and Tucker Carlson also knew he was a destructive wrecking ball, but they all made the Faustian bargain to line up their pockets and keep their increasingly radicalized MAGA base. Trump’s own Vice Presidential candidate, J.D. Vance had the most accurate read on him, referring to him as “America’s Hitler,” “reprehensible,” and “an idiot.” He decided to betray his convictions, and the security of his biracial children, just to temporarily suck at the soiled, wrinkled teat of Trumpian power.

Well, karma has come to collect in the form of Kamala Harris and generations of women who have waited two years to unleash their righteous rage at Trump and Republicans for overturning Roe v. Wade and taking away their hard-earned rights and freedoms. They will be joined by young people, people of color, and some Republicans who still have fidelity to democracy instead of a demagogue. 

Surprise, surprise, MAGA. It took a while, but the first female President is about to crash through the glass ceiling thanks in part to MAGA’s embrace of white supremacy, which is thankfully always self-destructive, just like Donald Trump.
