Connecting from an SFO airport lounge, I invited Progressive commentators and hosts Danielle Moodie and Francesca Fiorentini to discuss the aftermath of the Blue Tsunami elections, which welcomed the election of Zohran Mamdani, a trifecta in Virginia, and a stunning rebuke of Donald Trump and MAGA policies across the board.
The question remains: can Democratic leadership learn the correct lessons from these wins or continue down its failed path of courting “moderates.” Senator Schumer’s calculation completely failed, and the days of milquetoast Democratic centrism appear to be over. Furthermore, it was people of color who helped deliver double-digit wins for Democrats, as a majority of white voters still chose death and failure with Republicans.
However, some Republicans, such as Reps. Thomas Massie and Marjorie Taylor Greene see where the wind is blowing and are now further to the left than Senator Schumer on Israel and embracing an economic populist agenda. As predicted, MTG is flirting with a Presidential run, and corporate views are helping to sanitize her horrific history. Meanwhile, the rest of MAGA are having the most epic, glorious meltdowns after Mamdani’s win, and their tears are sugar for our chai.
