Im worried about mandani’s safety. Sadly, I remember Martin Luther king jr killed in his 30s. How do we protect him successfully??

Main stream media sold us out for chumps corporate tax cuts during the campaign and they're all owned by right wing capitalists

yep, that IS the hugest problem in USA, on full display this year of 2025 especially.

Your analysis is off in my opinion. Spanenburger and Sherrill had big wins last night and are both white female moderates with military backgrounds and experience serving in Congress. Like Momdani, they focussed on affordability. Identity politics hurts the DEM party in my opinion. We need to run candidates who can win where they are running. In many states and districts in the country, THE DEM candidate can not win without also having the votes of independents and in some cases, Republicans. That's not opinion, that's just fact. I think Schumer definitely needs to go, but I don't agree with your analysis that moderates are doomed to fail. This is a big country, NYC is more the exception than the rule, and moderates clearly did not fail in NJ or VA last night. As I see it, a big tent is the ticket for the DEM party.

I agree, as long as the candidates really care about the people rather than caring too much about their corporate donors or AIPAC money.

These chump sycophant losers can’t govern. …Don’t want to govern. But insist that they MUST be re-elected. The tone-deafness, corruption and apathy is astounding. Even Richard Nixon (Richard Fkng Nixon!!) was able to get major legislation passed (EPA, Clean Water Act, etc.). This regime and its impotent lemmings can’t even keep the government open, won’t call the house in session, and are tearing down—literally and figuratively—our government institutions. All they do is tear things down, and destroy hard-won policies and progress. They don’t create or contribute anything (other than fascist chaos).

Exactly. Swear in the new congresswoman. Expose the Epstein files. For Christ's sakes they can't even manage that.

This white old lady loves Mamdani. He’s brilliant and is bringing back the Dem party back to where it belongs — the working people. I feel the older Dems completely forgot what they were supposed to be about and just became rich and elite and no longer were able to understand what the rest of us, even the middle class, were. going through. Let’s bring back the American dream. So all that child care offered by the government is impossible, something Mamdani wants to do. Why did New Mexico just do it?

Vel Santic's avatar

My sentiments too. The only bright exception to the older Dems is the excellent Bernie Sanders but then again he's an Independent who caucused with Democrats, so not sure whether that counts.

Robert Kriegar's avatar

Moderates need to go. You can't keep shaking hand with the devil and reaching across the aisle to compromise with evil. It's time to put your foot down and get your posture straight and grow a spine.

Vel Santic's avatar

Correct!! Like I've already written, "moderates" is a misnomer for such right-wingers who had been masquerading in the Democratic Party of USA as being something i.e. Democrats they weren't really.

Vel Santic's avatar

Factually the way USA is, yes. BUT the denominator "moderate" has been compromised i.e. often shown to be a misnomer in the public discourse of USA when the right-wingers who masqueraded as "blue dog democrats" such as manchin-sinema-that-van-something-from-NewJersey-who-went-to-become-a-tRumputinist-lately-fetterman really showed that that "moderate" was a code name for a tRumputinist in making.

On the other hand, the denominator "socialist" has been compromised i.e. often shown to be a misnomer by stalin&his so-called "communists", so I'd advise the Democratic "Socialists" of America party to call themselves Social-Democrats of America because that IS what they are and that IS much more palatable and electable to wider American public, as it should be, proudly insisting on Diversity, Equality and Inclusion, as they do. Also, social justice.

@ Waj Ali, Francesca Fiorentini and Danielle Moodie - All NONtRumputinist and better yet ANTItRumputinist Americans, regardless of internal inborn categories of diversity differences that they may be - must be concrete strong united in one sine-qua-non goal of defeating and removing tRumputin and his entire cult, first and foremost!! I think that IS how and what the Mayor of New York City Zohran Mamdani along with the Governors Abigail Spanberger and Mikie Sherrill reason and say, too!! Of course with primary focus on the Americans' real life issues of existence, thriving in life and democracy!

Diana Chapman's avatar

Yes !!! I’m so happy we have so many American heroes at such a tragic time in our country. I do believe we will come out better but the pain makes really sad. Quickly we are learning what we had and how lucky we’ve been for 250 years! Now we want it back. Or our forefathers will be so disappointed in us. We got here because many of we quit paying attention, including myself

Newsom was happy and supportive of Mamdanis win btw, saw it on video.

ALSO-please note this regarding school meals…

REGARDLESS of INCOME:

In School Year (SY) 2022–23, California became the first state to implement a statewide Universal Meals Program for school children. California’s Universal Meals Program (UMP) builds on the foundations of the federal National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP).

We so deserved yesterday. We still have a long journey.

Meanwhile, there are people still in horrible ICE detention centers, and I want to draw everyone's attention to one of them because this is a case of a man who served in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 2005 after sustaining a back injury so bad that he has had to use a wheelchair ever since. He has lived as a legal resident in the US for many decades.

His name is Zahid Chaudhry. He is originally from Pakistan, where ICE would like to deport him, and where many there will not treat him well because he is a US veteran.

He has two children. His wife, Melissa Chaudry, ran for US congress representing Washington State's 9th district (which includes southeast Seattle to Bellevue and south almost to Tacoma) in 2024 but was defeated in the primary by decades-long incumbent Adam Smith. I have been following her since I found out about her husband (partly because I lived near that area for 9 years and love Washington State). Her focus now is on her husband. She writes brilliantly. She would be a wonderful congresswoman.

It would be totally wonderful if people with a following - hey, Waj? - would interview her to draw attention, not only to the case, but to so many other veterans who have been held and even deported by ICE.

Zahid has been in detention since August. Melissa's latest update is below, and it doesn't look good. The bureaucracy is jerking them around. At least Zahid is still in this country, but he's still in detention, and in a previous post Melissa mentioned that they were not dealing well with his health issues, including chronic pain.

Please spread their story. Thanks!

there are in history some of them already - stern gang-lechi ("ch" pronounced as guttural "h") - meir kahane&his.

such are thankfully a small minority of Jews in Diaspora and Israel but sadly such do exist.

I'm 87, don't show up in the polls which stop somewhere in the 70s. But when I was 7 years old in the UK, in 1945 the Labour party was elected and went on over the next few years to bring in democratic socialist elements: universal health care, affordable housing (they seriously Built), unemployment insurance and more. I grew up seeing the world as organized like that. Still do. So I was delighted when Mamdani was first running for mayor, even more delighted to vote for him. He is inclusive with a capital I. And I hope that spreads everywhere. He's an immigant, so am I (white, but what can you do!), and he speaks out for immigrants who built the city, and is now led by one. It's all an incredible return to sanity.

Oh and, primary Schumer and Gillibrand, they're wretched; and Hakeem Jeffries really needs to be replaced.

Vel Santic's avatar

Exactly!! And when that social justice practice is understood as Social-Democracy instead of a controversial term "socialist", much more Americans will be for it!!

Genna Hall's avatar

Mamdani spoke to what NYorkers needed to hear. I think he has great ideas, hopeful that he can implement them. It will be a challenge. I am not sure the establishment wanted him either. What else would either of Democrats leader do, big money talks! Always. It's a new day and generation with ideas not in line with the 50 plus crowd. Democrats need to wake up!
