Recently, Professional Somnambulist Senator Chuck Schumer told The Bulwark of the “Five Buckets” he believes will help Democrats regain control of Congress.
I’ll quote him directly from the piece:
“You will see in the next months, we’re going to be focusing on five buckets. One is housing, one is the high price of food [and] food monopolies playing a major role there. One is electricity. One is the high cost of childcare. And then, of course, health care.”
Wonderful. So, what are the specifics? Medicare for all? Universal health care? Anything about taxing the rich? No, nada, nothing?
You know what’s also missing? Any mention of ICE, which is a rogue, lawless agency acting as Trump’s Gestapo that openly celebrates their murder of Renee Nicole Good, an unarmed white woman. In fact, Schumer and Establishment Dems are still committed to funding DHS by the end of the month. When asked if he was for abolishing ICE, Schumer simply walked away. He didn’t even promise to stop funding it pending a rehaul, nor did he offer any ideas on how it could be rehabilitated or replaced. Even Senator Gallego of Arizona, a swing state, admitted that ICE now must be “totally torn down.”
In the absence of leadership, Zohran Mamdani appeared on The View earlier today and explained why he supports abolishing ICE, which operates with “absolute immunity,” according to VP Vance. “We’re seeing a government agency that is supposed to be enforcing some sort of immigration law, but instead, what it is doing is terrorizing people no matter their immigration status, no matter the facts of the law, and no matter the facts of the case,” Mamdani said. “And I’m tired of waking up every day and seeing a new image of someone being dragged out of a car, dragged out of their home, and dragged out of their life. What we need to see is humanity,” he added.
Bold leadership that is willing to fight and stand up for people, and not corporations, is a major reason why Mamdani was able to coalesce a multicultural coalition and become the mayor of NYC.
Who opposed him? Chuck Schumer, corporations, billionaires, and the Democratic Establishment. We all know that Donald Trump is a deranged, racist authoritarian surrounded by Republican Reeks who are unwilling and unable to hold him accountable. They will enable his self-destruction of America and embolden the world’s worst people, including Nazis. The question remains: what is the opposition doing? And if they’re nothing, then why are we the majority content with them as our fighters?
