Hang Project 2025 Around the GOP’s Neck

It's not just Trump but the entire GOP that is complicit in an authoritarian agenda to derail our democracy and chip away at our hard-earned freedoms. Hold them all accountable for Project 2025.

Donald Trump is apparently strong, fit, vigorous and a self-proclaimed “very stable genius.”

So, it’s odd to learn that he knows nothing about Project 2025, the blueprint for a second Trump Administration, which his own super PAC has referred to as “Trump’s Project 2025.” It is also supported by the most influential conservative think tanks and donors.

Perhaps Trump, a 78-year-old man, has lost several steps due to his old age and this explains his sudden amnesia, alongside his numerous gaffes and brain farts. It’s troubling that a man running to be the President of the United States allegedly knows “nothing” about an expansive document created by the conservative Heritage Foundation think tank that lays out in detail exactly what will happen on the first day of Trump’s second Administration. Trump adds, “I disagree with some of things they’re saying and some of things they’re saying are absolutely ridiculous and abysmal.” 

Well, what does he disagree with exactly?

Does he disagree with Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts who made headlines this week when he said America is in the process of a “second American revolution” and warned the majority it would be bloodless only “if the left allows it to be?” Does Trump, as stated, “wish them luck” with this Project 2025 endeavor, which by the way Kevin Roberts says Trump gets “full credit” for creating? 

Or does Trump agree with Project 2025’s full agenda, which includes gutting the administrative state, purging the government and installing MAGA loyalists, attacking women’s rights, weakening Social Security, annihilating the Department of Education and the Environmental Protection Agency, suspending immigration to the United States, and cutting disability pay for veterans by $160 billion? (Max Burns has a solid Twitter thread which outlines other horrific aspects of the plan.) 

Trump also alleges he has “no idea who’s behind [Project 2025]” and he has “nothing to do with them.” Well, that’s odd, because all of Project 2025’s architects sure have a lot of connections with Donald Trump. He could find out more by simply calling up the following people:

• Trump can call his national press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, who is starring in recruitment ads for Project 2025. 

• Trump can call John McEntee, Trump’s former top aide, who joined Project 2025 in May as a senior advisor. 

• Trump can ring up Paul Dans, who was Trump’s chief of staff at the Office of Personnel Management, who is now a director of the 2025 Presidential Transition Project.

• If Paul is out of town, Trump can try Spencer Chretien, who was his special assistant and is now working with Paul Dans as his Associate Director for Project 2025.

• There’s also Troup Hemenway, Trump’s former associate director of the Presidential Personnel Office, who also joined as another senior advisor and Associate Director of Project 2025.  

• If all of them are busy, just go straight to the top and dial Heritage President Kevin Roberts. After all, Trump has appeared at the think tank and told them he “needs” them for his MAGA agenda. 

• If Trump is too lazy to call any of them because he’s watching Fox or golfing during his retired “executive time,” then someone from his campaign can just call Project 2025 leader Russ Vought, a proud Christian nationalist, whom they chose to co-lead the RNC Platform Committee.

Clearly, Trump is lying. His sweaty, small fingerprints are all over Project 2025, its architects, and its extremist agenda that will create a Trump dictatorship under the guise of a sham democracy. The only reason he’s backtracking is because his ally threatened the majority with a revolution. Unfortunately, that doesn’t go over well with most Americans especially during Independence Day. 

Democrats can finally learn from Black women, such as Taraji P. Henson, an actress, who stared directly into the camera while hosting the BET Awards last week and spent time warning Americans about the Project 2025 agenda. She helped make this insidious project finally go mainstream. She is not a journalist, most of whom are currently obsessed with Biden’s age, nor a Democratic official, most of whom have lost their spine and fight.

However, a few, like Senator Chris Murphy and Rep. Jasmine Crockett have been on top of it. Last week, Senator Murphy released a short, effective, 3 minute video warning about Project 2025. There’s literally no excuse for every Democrat not to do the same. Just create a 1-2 minute video, even on Tik Tok or Instagram, talking about one aspect of Project 2025’s dystopian, right-wing authoritarian attacks on our democracy, agencies, and freedoms.

When journalists wake up from their self-induced coma, they too can ask every single Republican if they accept Project 2025. It’s not about limiting the question to Trump, but rather this document represents the vision of the entire conservative movement. They are entrenched in their ideological extremism and held hostage by their unhinged base. There’s no wiggle room for them. You can corner them, but only if journalists and reporters do their job.

However, there’s too much at stake to simply rely on corporate media and powerful politicians who have routinely sided with comfort, civility, and profit instead of truth, justice, and equity. We are all empowered as well. Project 2025 is out in the open. Don’t underestimate your reach and voice. Be sure to educate your family members, friends, religious community, social clubs, and co-workers. This document will radically harm and reshape this country for the sake of placating the authoritarian impulses of a corrupt Christian nationalist minority who care nothing about our freedoms or democracy.

Hang Project 2025 around their necks, and let them succumb under all its rancid, oppressive weight.
