The United States of America is currently being run by a kleptocratic regime headed by an aging, corrupt criminal whose family has amassed $5 billion in Crypto wealth as grocery prices are skyrocketing and Soybean farmers are going bankrupt.
It’d be terrible enough if the Trump Administration were simply rigging the game to enrich the broligarchy, but they have a more nefarious and ambitious agenda at play. Currently, marked, armed ICE agents are terrorizing American cities while National Guard members are wasting their time and our money patrolling the U.S. Capitol and picking up trash. Trump repeated his “enemy within” line during his pathetic and shameful cosplay in front of our military generals, who were not impressed by his hollow spectacle of frat boy machismo. Stephen Miller, the most dangerous, unelected man in the world, has already declared the United States is under “invasion” and has tried to suspend habeas corpus.
Corporations, trying to save their own hides and protect their bottom line, are simply bribing Trump to buy time. Others have rolled out the red carpet for their future King and Daddy. Paramount was able to merge with Skydance because they paid Trump $16 million to settle a BS lawsuit and canceled his longtime critic, Stephen Colbert. Earlier today, Paramount announced it was acquiring the Free Press for $150 million and appointing right-wing provocateur and Israel apologist Bari Weiss to run CBS News. ABC News tried to placate Trump and FCC Chair Carr’s extortion attempts by suspending Jimmy Kimmel.
Thankfully, that blatant example of public and unconstitutional bullying was a bridge too far for the American public. The people responded by raising hell and cancelling their Disney+ subscriptions. It was a necessary and powerful example of a weak Trump Administration that doesn’t have the influence it desires and is steadily losing the support of the masses.
Historian and Substack grand maven Heather Cox Richardson joined me today to discuss how we all can fight back against an increasingly authoritarian Trump regime that is trying to stifle dissent, hollow out the government, ban books, threaten critics, and amass as much money as possible until Trump’s cankles give out. Instead of looking to Europe, Richardson takes the Delorean back to the 19th century and makes parallels with white supremacy’s attempt to undo Reconstruction. She also offers us examples of resistance and hope that can light the way forward.
Give us a watch!
