Americans, are you prepared to die for Benjamin Netanyahu and Israel's genocidal regime?
Donald Trump just requested that you make that sacrifice as the United States joined Israel in a strike/war against Iran, intending to decapitate their leadership and usher in regime change.
Despite ongoing negotiations and a last-ditch effort by Oman’s Foreign Minister, Trump decided yet again on the most disastrous and self-destructive course of action and launched a joint “pre-emptive strike.” Israel, after initiating the strikes on Tehran, then declared a “state of emergency” and is trying to portray itself as a victim on the global stage.
If indeed Americans were under such an “imminent threat,” surely the Trump Administration would share the evidence with the public, who overwhelmingly disapproved of a war with Iran, right? It was so “imminent” that Trump had to bypass Congressional approval and illegally join what looks like a war and major combat operations in Iran that will potentially cause violent blowback and numerous casualties.
We’ve seen this story before in 2003, as the United States sold the world a lie about Iraq having “weapons of mass destruction” and then declared a “pre-emptive strike” that led to a long, bloody, and failed War on Terror. A cheerleader of that war was none other than Benjamin Netanyahu, who urged America to expand the war against Iran.
Well, here we are, victims of historical amnesia and captives to authoritarian warmongers, the military industrial complex, and messianic fanatics. During Ramadan, as they are fasting, Iranians are being bombed. We don’t know if these strikes will escalate into a full-blown war. We can only hope cooler heads prevail and diplomacy takes root.
Will Democratic leadership jonesing for regime change be complicit partners in this illegal war, or will they actually resist? Will corporate media parrot Israel’s talking points or ask the tough questions and call out the bullshit?
Time will tell.
