Despite the billionaires and corporate Establishment throwing everything against Mamdani, he still won in a historic upset for a disgraced politician backed by the world’s most powerful and wealthy individuals.
One can dismiss Mamdani’s win in NYC as an outlier in a Blue city. Or, one can open their eyes, read the polls, listen to people, and acknowledge the clear truth that the majority is sick and tired of the status quo and demands radical change.
There’s a reason why Trump, a lifelong fraudster born to wealth and privilege, failed his way up to the White House. He performed as an “outsider” and promised to bulldoze the system. Bernie Sanders also influenced many Trump voters and even voted for AOC in 2024 because they are done with the establishment that has brought them nothing but higher bills and lower wages.
Political identities and parties matter even less now. Most young people don’t care about Democrats or Republicans, and now there are just as many Democratic Socialists as there are self-identified MAGA supporters. It’s about supporting the candidate who is running on a message of economic populism, willing to fight against the bureaucracy, and can lift all the people who are suffering from unjust institutions that profit the worst and wealthiest.
Progressive activist and journalist David Sirota, editor of The Lever, has been on this message for nearly twenty years. He says we’re in a once-in-a-lifetime moment where the majority can finally push politicians to embrace radical reform instead of milquetoast centrists. The politics of restoration and civility won’t fix broken systems. If ever there was a moment for an FDR-style New Deal, it’s now.
Sirota joins me to share his analysis of the Blue Tsunami and discuss his best-selling book, The Master Plan: The Hidden Plot to Legalize Corruption in America, which traces how the broligarchy captured American democracy.
Thank you God, Cat, Lalisa, the real pambo, Lauren Seikaly, and many others for tuning into my live video with David Sirota! Join me for my next live video in the app.
