By all accounts, the No Kings march was a huge success.
Saturday was the single largest day of protests in U.S. history. Nearly 7 million Americans across all 50 states - some dressed in frog costumes - came out to march against an aging, corrupt, cankled authoritarian. There was no violence, no assault of police officers, no insurrection, and no assassination attempts against elected officials. Nonetheless, Trump found an excuse to post a disgusting AI-generated video of him, wearing a crown, dumping sewage on Americans. (Nope. Not making this up.)
However, the Trump regime is still in power. The broligarchy continues grifting and gobbling up all of our money and resources. The Supreme Court remains complicit in MAGA’s agenda to take this country back to 1953. ICE agents continue to terrorize innocent Americans with impunity. Corporations, such as Spotify, are now running ICE ads, and big tech has completely bent the knee to their future king. Trump’s lackeys are pardoned while his critics, such as Letitia James, are hit with bullshit subpoenas. Speaker Mike Johnson has shut down the House rather than allow a vote to release the Epstein Files. The Trump Administration continues killing Venezuelans in strikes without due process or providing any evidence that they’re terrorists. Abroad, Israel continues its genocidal campaign against Palestinians.
As far as political opposition, Democratic leadership still hasn’t endorsed Zohran Mamdani or backed away from AIPAC. They are still sucking at the teat of corporate money and are resistant to putting on the brass knuckles to figuratively fight back against a MAGA bully that is playing for all the marbles.
Indivisible co-founder Ezra Levin, who helped organize the No Kings Day, understands all the challenges ahead of us, but also recognizes openings for massive resistance against a weakened, desperate Trump regime.
Elated and exhausted after Saturday’s impressive march, Ezra managed to muster enough energy to join me to discuss how we can gauge the success of No Kings and what the practical next steps are for mobilized resistance.
Give us a watch!
