Did you notice the glorious “Fungus Green” color? It’s very swampy and in tune with the corruption of the Trump Administration. Well, it used to be blue! For a day or two, it was even “dark blue” after Trump’s unnecessary and destructive $14.2 million paint renovation. He wanted the blue to really pop! Unfortunately, science and nature had other ideas. The paint job instead welcomed the largest algae growth in years, which has now begun eating away at the new blue color.
The no-bid contract for the paint job was awarded to a Trump donor, John J. Cafaro, a criminal who has previously pleaded guilty to bribery and campaign finance violations. Because the universe is not being subtle anymore, his company’s name was Greenwater Services.
I feel like we’re living in an Old Testament story.
This is the stuff you’re taught in Sunday school if you come from religious communities. There are countless examples of reckless, ungrateful humans who shit in their own milk. Had they just gotten on the Ark, they wouldn’t have drowned. Had they just waited a few days for Moses instead of building a golden calf, they wouldn’t have been smoted.
And on and on and on it goes.
If we had simply held Donald Trump accountable for his crimes, elected capable individuals, and confronted our country’s sins of capitalism, racism, and misogyny, we could have had nice things. America could have had everything. We were once the world’s most powerful and wealthy country. There was, and is, more than enough to go around, but nope, we decided to destroy ourselves.
Do you need more examples?
Well, I have several.
Texas and New Mexico are experiencing a preventable screwworm growth that threatens animal safety and livestock. Why? Because Trump and Elon Musk dismantled the government agencies and experts in charge of monitoring and preventing such calamities. Over 160 Air Force trainees in Texas are also sick with influenza. Why? Because Pete Hegseth changed the vaccine policy. Oh, measles is now a problem in some of these communities as well. The year is 2026, not 1776, but I digress.
Internationally, the Strait of Hormuz is closed, and the Middle East is on fire because Trump decided to walk away from the successful US-Iran deal and join Netanyahu in his failed and illegal war. Now, thousands of people are dead, Israel remains on its belligerent war path, and the U.S. is stuck in a quagmire.
I’m supposed to be on vacation, but looking at my country from another land gives me some perspective and, dare I say, sadness.
