Marjorie Taylor Greene announced her retirement on Friday, but that doesn’t mean she’ll disappear from the spotlight or stop influencing a MAGA movement that now belongs to white Christian nationalists, neo-Nazis, and anti-semites.
In recent weeks, MTG has blamed her own party for the government shutdown, complained publicly about the faltering economy and the rising cost of living, and demanded the release of the Epstein Files. Trump saw this as betrayal and publicly broke with his former ally by calling her a traitor. Since then, MTG alleged she has faced numerous threats to her life.
I refuse to sanitize, whitewash, or launder MTG simply because she is on the right side of history when it comes to the Epstein scandal. To me, she is simply a useful tool to weaken and destroy a hateful movement that she helped create.
This is the same woman who rose to power by promoting hateful, anti-semitic conspiracy theories, threatening violence against The Squad, courting white Christian nationalists, and hounding David Hogg, who survived the Parkland school shooting. She went all-in with Trump’s “beautiful bill” that gives billionaires permanent tax cuts at the expense of Medicaid. She’s “America First,” which means she is critical of Israel’s genocide, but she mostly wants to keep America white and Christian.
All of this is to say that MTG is no hero.
She is using a gullible corporate media and a spineless Democratic establishment to rehabilitate her image. Regardless of whether or not she runs for office again, I believe she represents the present and future of the MAGA movement, along with Tucker Carlson, Candace Owens, and Nick Fuentes, who recently proclaimed that “MAGA is dead.” They will appeal to disaffected voters with a message of anti-elite rage, economic populism, and racism. They are further to the left of the Democratic Establishment when it comes to criticizing Israel’s genocide and have joined them when it comes to calling for the release of the Epstein Files.
However, be warned, that doesn’t mean they are friends or should be seen as such.
