His money came from the state of Israel, who set up his character as a part of his job role to attract and fit into the elite circle of people who they wanted to blackmail. They intentionally wanted a “dumb” man to be able to manipulate him. He was dumb and evil but the brains was Ghislaine Maxwell to disguise the setup. This team of Epstein/Maxwell is - while especially filthy - not an especially new phenomenon. Henry James would have known all about it.
