Last week, Democratic leader Senator Chuck Schumer met with Donald Trump in the White House. The next day, Trump’s DOJ announced criminal investigations into Mayor Frey and Governor Walz for criticizing ICE for terrorizing their communities.
It seems Schumer’s finger-wagging and sternly worded letter didn’t work this time, just like it hasn’t for the past decade. Regardless, the establishment Democrats persisted! Even though a majority of Americans have turned on ICE after the murder of Renee Nicole Good, Schumer remains committed to the lawless Gestapo and is on course to keep funding the DHS. He’s joined by Gavin Newsom, who agreed with Ben Shapiro that Israel isn’t committing a genocide. Last month, Newsom also refused to support taxing the wealthy, even though it is absurdly popular across the board, and instead included them in his “big tent.”
Meanwhile, Senator Schumer still refuses to embrace Zohran Mamdani, but he had no problem laughing it up with Marco Rubio last week and taking a picture with war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu. To assuage concerns that he isn’t doing enough, Schumer told The Bulwark of his “5 bucket” strategy for Dems to gain control of Congress.
Housing
"The high price of food [and] food monopolies playing a major role there.”
Electricity
"The high cost of childcare”
Health care.
This sounds great. What about the specifics? Universal child care? More affordable housing, if so, how? Medicare for all? Taxing the wealthy?
Notice none of that is there. What’s also missing is accountability, taking on the broligarchy, abolishing ICE, abandoning AIPAC, or uplifting marginalized communities.
Even if Democrats win in 2028 - assuming we have free and fair elections - what makes you think this battleplan will fundamentally change people’s lives for the better? What happens when Crypto and AI fail? We’ll bail them out. What happens when billionaires make even more money? Well, they’ll just donate to corporate Democrats who’ll keep saying, “Listen, it’s either us, or Trump and the fascists, OK? So shut up and vote for us.”
Progressive commentator and host Krystal Ball and I believe we all deserve better. The current establishment battleplan is a recipe for long-term failure and a rinse and repeat of policies that have only helped the rich at the expense of the majority. Instead, we need bold reforms and an outsider vision that is willing to shake up the status quo.
