During today’s mid-week Democracy-ish check-in, Danielle and I kept reloading our social media feed to see if Donald Trump, the avatar and savior of White Christian America, would post anything about the tragic mass shooting in Minneapolis in which 2 children were killed and 17 people were injured.
Nope.
MAGA and right-wing media are only concerned about whether the shooter was a transgender female. Nothing else matters. Not the fact that this was yet another mass shooting at a school with an assault rifle by a radicalized individual citing white nationalist terrorists, such as Anders Breivik, and spouting anti-semitic conspiracies that have gone mainstream thanks to the GOP. All of that is perfectly fine, but what really matters is whether Robin Westman, the suspect, is transgender.
Nothing else matters, folks. It’s all about the endless grievance and culture war. Perpetual Festivus against people of color, immigrants, and trans people, some of the most marginalized individuals on Earth.
The economy is tanking, measles are skyrocketing, CDC leaders are resigning, armed National Guard troops and masked ICE agents are patrolling the nation’s capital for no reason, and Trump is becoming a socialist dictator by taking over Union Station, and a 10% stake in Intel is all halal.
Danielle and I continue to make the case that Trump and the GOP are rapidly advancing their fascist plan to replace our democracy with a right-wing authoritarian minority. We also spend a few minutes celebrating wins, such as the victory of Democrat Catlin Drey, who won a Trump district by double digits last night, and we enjoy the comedy gold that is Charlemagne Tha God labelling Hakeem Jeffries as “AIPAC Shakur.”
