Acosta survived the first Trump Administration, but he was targeted during Trump’s revenge tour, along with Stephen Colbert, who lost his job, and Jimmy Kimmel, whom Melania Trump and Republicans want fired because they didn’t like his joke.
So much for being free speech warriors.
It bears remembering that Trump referred to the 4th Estate as “the enemy of the people,” encouraged violence against journalists, and one of his former die-hard supporters, Cesar Sayoc, is currently in jail for sending functional mail bombs to Trump’s endless list of enemies. Trump’s enmity towards journalists who actually challenge him and ask follow-up questions remains at an all-time high. Just look at his treatment of Norah O’Donnell during their 60 Minutes interview, where she read the suspect’s manifesto, in which he referred to the cankled criminal as a “pedophile, rapist, and traitor.” Trump has a habit of being a snowflake when asked tough questions by female journalists.
Regardless, these journalists continue bending the knee and showing up to the White House Correspondent’s Dinner, where Trump was supposed to give an hour-long rant before lax security disrupted the plans. It’s all about the access and the scoop and the headlines, even now, as ICE agents have murdered innocent Americans and billionaires are buying up all of our institutions, including Hollywood studios and news channels.
After already taking over Paramount, CBS News, and TikTok, the Ellisons are now set to gobble up CNN, and Warner Bros. America will soon resemble Russia or Hungary as the oligarchs control the media and use it to help the regime, fill their pockets, and attack their enemies. CNN anchors and producers see where the wind is blowing and have decided to bend the knee. They have allowed conservative hack Scott Jennings a permanent perch on the nightly news show to dominate the conversation and throw a hissy fit against 23-year-old-old liberal commentator Adam Mockler without any repercussions.
Who better to discuss the decline of CNN and the submission of corporate media than Jim Acosta, who joins The Left Hook.
