The Toxic Broligarchy Are Ready to Flex Their Power and Insecurity On America
Ahead of Trump's inauguration, a cadre of insecure, weak billionaires are all bending the knee to protect themselves and their interests and cosplaying as Alpha men to court Trump's toxic base.
Subtlety is dead in America.
Before a convicted criminal, aspiring authoritarian, and sexual abuser of women assumes power, the universe is sending us some clear signs that things are about to fall apart. Right on cue, Americans were treated to a stunning light show as we witnessed the colorful shards of “genius” Elon Musk’s exploding SpaceX shuttle stream across the sky. It was the most expensive fireworks paid for by American taxpayer dollars. Recently, Musk’s Cybertruck exploded in front of a Trump Hotel when a radicalized Trump fanatic and U.S. citizen decided to kill himself and injure bystanders. Trump just announced he will move his inauguration indoors due to bitter, freezing cold that is set to descend upon Washington D.C.
God and the Fates are providing examples of what we English majors refer to as metaphors and foreshadowing of what’s about to happen to our democracy, our rights, and our culture as a toxic, reckless, violent cadre of a right-wing broligarchy are about to assume and flex power. The dominos keep falling as the world’s worst billionaires are all voluntarily bending the knee to escape punishment, gain access to power, and receive tax cuts. Mark Zuckerberg, whom I call Zuck the Cuck, announced he will be one of the four hosts of a black-tie reception for Donald Trump on January 20th.
Zuckerberg, along with Jeff Bezos, is also pledging $1 million to Trump’s inauguration fund and they’ll be front and center on Monday sitting next to billionaires Elon Musk, Sam Altman, TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew, and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pinchai. It remains to be seen whether NYC Mayor Eric Adams, another rich man, will join them. Adams flew to Mar-a-Lago to bend the knee to Trump most likely to seek protection from his Mob boss as a federal indictment looms over his head.
In addition to bending the knee, they are now copying Trump’s toxic model of masculinity to court his base of enraged men. Zuckerberg has elevated UFC CEO Dana White to Meta’s board, dropped the hoodie for a chain, and last year accepted Musk’s “cage match” challenge. He also threw Sheryl Sandberg under the bus, and then reversed the bus, blaming his former COO for creating a weak, soft culture at Facebook. Instead, he’s now taking instructions from budget Goebbels Stephen Miller and said he would do nothing to obstruct Trump’s agenda and join him in the attack on the current bogeyman, DEI.
How do you think this will all work out, folks? As a person who has been married for 12 years, I can confidently say this type of performative alpha male masculinity might be great for photo ops and Fox News clips but is utterly disastrous for maintaining healthy, loving relationships. If you don’t believe me, just look at Trump and Musk’s history with women. You can also research Pete Hegseth’s history of alleged abuse, which is so horrid that his mother wrote him a damning email in which she called him out and sided with his ex-wife.
Now imagine this mindset and culture and what it will do to our country. You think this will last? If so, for how long? It’ll all come crumbling down, and sadly it’ll fall first and foremost on the most marginalized and vulnerable, including women, the poor, and Trump’s voters who allegedly wanted the price of eggs to go down but instead are going to get tariffs and tax cuts for the rich.
In today’s episode of Democracy-Ish, Danielle and I touch upon these issues but spend the majority of the episode talking about why Trump and his incel minions are attracted to such a toxic interpretation of masculinity and how progressives have failed to address the needs and anxieties of men. Our community appreciated the candid conversation, and I hope you find it useful as well.
He will be one of four hosts of a black-tie reception on Jan. 20,
Why is it progressives' job to address the needs and anxieties of men? Shouldn't they figure it out themselves? That's what women have done.
