Kash Patel, Trump’s unqualified FBI director who has no law enforcement experience, is assigning nearly a quarter of our FBI agents across the country to immigration enforcement, with that number potentially reaching up to 40% of national field officers. They’ll be joining the National Guard, members of the military, and masked, armed ICE agents to patrol the “war zone” streets of Portland, Chicago, DC, and LA.
How does this make us safer? Who will investigate sex trafficking, violent crimes, widespread fraud, international interference in our elections, and all the other crimes that Trump and MAGA allegedly care so much about?
Apparently, no one, because Trump is a weak, desperate, cornered NYC rat who realizes he’s underwater in the polls and quickly losing support. He’d rather burn down the country than release the Epstein Files. Instead, he’ll manufacture crises and “terrorists” and use that as a pretext to go for martial law. He’s open to using the Insurrection Act, and his Mini Himmler, Stephen Miller, has already claimed America is under “invasion” and should suspend the right to habeas corpus.
Earlier today, Trump, who authorized the National Guard of Texas to join his Gestapo to terrorize Chicago residents, posted that he wants Governor Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Johnson in jail for resisting his efforts to create a Reichstag fire. Meanwhile, on the streets of Chicago, ICE agents have been given a green light to unlawfully use force against immigrants, priests, cops, babies, and innocent Americans who are simply trying to live their lives while being brown.
Thankfully, a majority of Americans are horrified by the overreach and abuse. The question remains: what can we do about it?
I invited former border patrol agent and whistleblower Jenn Budd, author of the memoir Against the Wall, to describe the corrupt, violent culture of ICE, their history of lying and creating fake stories to justify their crimes, and strategies the majority and Democratic leaders can use to push back against Trump’s Gestapo.
It’s an important conversation that should give us some hope and action items as Trump marches towards martial law.
