Nearly six years ago, Rick Wilson and I joined Don Lemon on his CNN show to discuss Trump and Mike Pompeo’s misogyny towards NPR reporter Marie Louise Kelly, who is an expert on Eastern Europe. During the seven-minute segment, we took a two-minute detour to mock Trump’s ignorance, and Rick said Trump spells Ukraine with a U next to a picture of a crane.
Don Lemon lost it and laughed uncontrollably, and Rick and I spent two minutes mocking the MAGA base that indulged in the cruelty. MAGA can dish it, but they can’t take it. They whined and complained, and, sadly, our colleagues in corporate media chided us for being too harsh against “the deplorables.”
Well, we were right.
Donald Trump is a lying, convicted criminal fraudster who partied with a pedophile and was held liable for sexually assaulting E. Jean Carroll. He is a racist, pure and unadulterated, with a rich history of targeting Black people, especially the first Black president, Barack Obama. Trump knowingly and deliberately posted that disgusting video of the Obamas as apes earlier today. He did it rile up his base, because racism has always worked, and to distract from the Epstein scandal and ICE murdering Americans in broad daylight.
Except this time - it didn’t work.
The White House was forced to remove the clip, and despite their pathetic defense, now they’ve gone radio silent on Trump’s racism. He even briefly lost Senator Tim Scott, who expressed his shock and outrage. (About 10 years too late there, Tim.) He even lost a triple Trumper over the latest stunt.
This is a sign of weakness.
The old stunts aren’t working because Trump has destroyed America by making us sicker, poorer, and more isolated. Even his most die-hard base isn’t buying the lies and the bullshit anymore.
Rick and I make the case for why Democrats and the majority now must go on scorched Earth, blitzkrieg offense, and use every leverage to dismantle this fascist regime. You can’t “make deals” with authoritarians or coddle them, Chuck Schumer.
