Vote Blue No Matter Who.
That’s been the mantra of the Democratic Party for the past 10 years, justifying the election of “moderates” and “centrists” who take corporate money, support genocide, celebrate an illegal occupation, attack “the woke,” and fund ICE.
It’s necessary for a big tent to take on Trump and MAGA fascism. Sure, Manchin and Sinema were problematic, but, hey, at least you can count on them for some votes for Biden appointees. I mean, they joined with Republicans to handicap Biden’s bold, progressive economic agenda that would’ve helped Americans and his re-election chances, but that’s the bullet you have to bite, right?
This is why Democrats sought out Liz Cheney and Never Trump Republicans. You have to build out the tent and expand the numbers.
But doesn’t that include everyone to the left of the Establishment as well, which is actually the majority when you look at policies that are popular? Doesn’t this explain the election of Mamdani, the rise of AOC, and how El-Sayed overcame 10-1 spending to win Michigan’s primary by 1 point?
A Fox Poll yesterday showed Democrats surging in swing states, but El-Sayed being behind by 4 points. The usual Establishment hacks are almost gleeful with their “I told you so!” posts, oblivious that they supported taking right-wing billionaires’ money to attack the Muslim American Rhodes Scholar for the past 2 months. Naturally, El-Sayed is now at a disadvantage and has to win a contentious, ugly, nasty, Islamophobic-laced smear campaign.
But why are these Democrats not jumping in and defending him? Why do they retweet Laura Loomer’s attacks on Hasan Piker? Why are they spending $15 million to attack progressives? It’s all to retain power, access, and relevance, even if it means losing a Senate seat and their base. It’s the last, desperate gasp of a failed centrist Establishment playing for all the marbles.
