I can't believe the fuss over a 5th place trophy. Is this a race to the bottom? I think they miss the point that trans girls aren't exactly hopped up on testosterone. Did you see the little girl who won gold at the track meet. And I do mean little. The girls surrounding her looked like giants. No offence to them, they just looked very athletic. But I'm so disgusted with all the hate. And especially when it's directed towards trans children. I feel like these so-called Christians keep trying to put words in God's mouth that he would spit out along with them.
I am a strong believer that those who put themselves above all others & deliberately set out to destroy & humilated others based on pure self righteousness of how they see it - well life itself will take care of them & usually life does a pretty good job of it!!
On either Democracyish or America Unhinged, there was a version of Pastor Martin Neimöller’s poem that was updated to be even more relevant to today, and I've been looking for it ever since. If anyone has it, I would love a copy.
Trans people are the people in the spotlight atm but it's going to be someone else each day after until we are all gone. I for one want to stand up for the marginalized among us and make sure they are protected.
Way back when the last convicted of a crime president needed a scape goat, he threw Black people under the bus. He infused the black communities with drugs and demonized them with the "silent majority" who feared them on command. He spent billions to infuse black communities with drugs and then created a "war on blacks, oops, I mean war on drugs" Back in the 70's we still had a left over Kennedy feeling about the white house (ironic, isn't it), and we sent Nixon away.
NOW? The population of this country actually feel that a big bully can legislate how families deal with gender identity. Is that his job? Help me here but I don't expect him to go to your white/right church and instruct people to NOT be what they are. The sad thing is, it is the last refuge of the coward. Pick the most vulnerable population and make everyone afraid of them. What would anyone fear from someone whose life is in danger daily because many many people find their life style scary. If you are scared, go where you aren't scared.
What is disturbing is the concept that in spite of the constitution etc., we think we can control race, sexual identity from the federal level. Is Trump going to go to all LBGT meetings at high schools and say "bad kids"? Is that his job? Are there many resources for people who are afraid of the most vulnerable population in the world? AND how can they hurt anyone while they are hunted down and killed? Cowards do this. Cowardly insecure and sometimes closeted people do this because they are cowards. Kick the weakest member of our society? I don't see anything white and male about that. Pick on someone your own socio economic level. Leave the vulnerable alone. We are lead by the biggest coward of all. Don't follow the bully with no IQ
Support and protect everyone's right to live under there constitution that was written for us all.
Stop following the bully because you are afraid of what someone looks like
Just like Nixon made black people afraid to look at.
Cowards and closeted people do that. I can't wait to not have a coward as a president. AND an IQ might be helpful as well.
"Tragically, that’s what happened in America, where transgender people were the first victims, quickly followed by undocumented immigrants, pro-Palestinian students, news outlets, universities, and even Republicans who dared to defy Trump and show fidelity to the rule of law and the U.S. Constitution." Not including Jews here, given the precipitous increase in anti-semitic violence and discrimination, is not an accident or an oversight.
This post is about the Trump regime's targetting of minority groups. So far, (yes, so far), that hasn't included Jews. In fact, Trump has been using anti-semitism as justification for arrests of students and imposing penalties on universities.
Are we at the stage where every piece about bigotry HAS to include anti-semitism?
Or are you targetting Waj because he's a Muslim and stands against Israel's actions in Gaza?
I agree it seemed like an attack on the writer for being part of another “group” but damn it is all just so scary I hope we can just have sympathy for all marginalized groups because we are all under attack. I personally have strong feelings about the horrifying genocide in Gaza but also the Republicans are emboldening neo-Nazis to feel totally safe marching through the streets like in Kansas City just the other day. ICE is violently snatching up pro-Palestinian students and locking them up just for voicing opinions and now a terrorist feels embolden to throw bombs at Jewish people. But FOX news writes about “the horror” of Colorado Dems who happened to be having a fundraiser supporting Rep. Ilhan Omar at that time.. just to stir up things in the Dem party between pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian factions. Just this week FOX and The Daily Beast is trying to pretend a gay, black politician tapping his heart and then waving is the same as the child of Nazis who grew rich because of apartheid in South Africa doing a blatant Sieg Heil. We already waste so much needed energy on defending our values against the real enemy (the right wing fascists) it is my hope we start giving each other the benefit of the doubt so we can fight together and not waste energy going down rabbit holes. I am queer and female so I have the specific attacks on my groups at the forefront but any attack on a person of color, or Jew or Muslim or atheist, or poor person or disabled person or old person is all hitting my heart and driving me to want to take action for all our sakes.
I never said anything about the author being part of any "group," and it honestly never crossed my mind. I was responding only to the content of the column itself.
• Re: Trump's targeting of minority groups: https://www.npr.org/2025/05/14/nx-s1-5387299/trump-white-house-antisemitism. • Yes, a contemporary piece about groups targeted for hate crimes must reference Jews, given the terrifying rise in anti-semitic violence. Oversight is not an accident. • No, Waj's religion literally has nothing to do with my comments. I don't partake in ad hominem attacks.
Well why not just add to the conversation and bring up your perspective and insights instead of assuming something nefarious? Attacking the writer of a left-wing publication seems … whatever I guess you do you. I know whatever I say will just get an attack as well. I agree anti-semitism is another horrifying sickness on the rise in this country but fighting or blaming other marginalized groups versus the real threat (the fascist right wingers) is kind of the point of his article IMO.
Because Jews are constantly erased in this manner and the hatred gets excused in a way it often isn't pertaining to other groups. Anti-semitism needs to be called out and rejected or there are dangerous consequences. The oversight from the column is meaningful because it is part of an historical pattern that is surging once more in the West. Thank you, sincerely, for your thoughtful words.
Republi-Nazi's chose to demonize men transitioning into women so people wouldn't notice the US transitioning into Russia.
Excellent observation Dave...
Waj! Name and shame and I love to see it 👏👏👏
The only real thing trumpism has brought is rotten eggs in everyone's face.

Waj, I'm very proud of you for having published an article in a publication called "The Progressive". Now, I'm going to read it. 😎✊🏼💙🙂🤲🏼
Just wait until Putin finds out that Trump actually helped Ukraine with its bag of tricks!! Oh he'll be pissed beyond comprehension. Whoopsie.....☺️
An entire column about demonizing groups, without a single mention of anti-semitism. You are complicit.
He pointed out Republicans backing Hitler-supporting Trump and neo-Nazis so I think he included anti-semitism.
