The world’s richest man, Elon Musk, just addressed the President of the United States and his cabinet today despite having no official position in the government. Musk’s $290 million investment in Trump purchased him the main seat at the table and allows him to fire American employees, gut institutions, and lie about removing waste even as it’s revealed that he received $38 billion in government subsidies and has a $400 million contract from the State Department to provide “armored vehicles.” The Washington Post was the newspaper that exposed the government subsidy story on the same day that its billionaire owner Jeff Bezos decided to put his thumb on the editorial scale for Trump and declare that the opinion section can only write in favor of free markets and individual liberties.
In addition to repeating Putin’s talking points and lying about the European Union today, Trump also supported the House GOP’s budget which will give trillions of tax cuts to the broligarchy at the expense of Medicaid and SNAP benefits. This action will inevitably harm his base. Speaking of dying to own the libs, an unvaccinated child has died in Texas from the measles outbreak that has now spread to New Mexico. Our new director of HHS, RFK Jr., was asked about this tragedy and he decided to lie by saying, “It’s not unusual,” even though it is extremely unusual, rare, and preventable. To top it off, the conservative majority in the Supreme Court is poised to rule in favor of a white woman in Ohio who claims she was discriminated against because she was straight and lost jobs to gay workers. The true victims in this country are indeed straight, white Christians even as Trump and MAGA are repealing DEI initiatives, firing qualified people of color, and launching a brutal attack on LGBTQ+ communities.
All of this is part of a deliberate, orchestrated plan according to investigative journalist Katherine Stewart. In her latest book, Money, Lies, and God: Inside the Movement to Destroy American Democracy, Stewart identifies and maps an incestuous network of wealthy donors, right-wing intellectuals, pastors, grassroots activists, eugenicists, and Christian nationalists whom she describes as “reactionary nihilists” committed to destroying democracy for the sake of power and money. It’s a diverse network of individuals, motivated by different goals, that fit into five categories: 1) The Funders, 2) The Thinkers, 3) The Sergeants, 4) The Infantry, and 5) The Power Players.
I strongly recommend spending 30 minutes listening to this important Chai Talk, and purchasing Stewart’s book, to understand this incestuous, highly organized, well-funded, minority group that is working in tandem to undermine our democracy, attack pluralism, and weaken women and people of color all in service of power for a right-wing authoritarian force.
