Putin is laughing at Trump. The latter went to great lengths to get Putin’s attention when he was trying to build Trump Tower Moscow. Trump got funding but it fell through. Then he got a second round of funding, and told everyone he wanted Putin to have the penthouse. Putin couldn’t even be bothered to meet Trump. Putin got Russia firmly under his fist—something Trump would like to do to the U.S., and only stands to have his power weakened or removed because he has failed so miserably in Ukraine. Orban is a nasty, puffed up little man-/much more akin to Trump, but he is still frightening. Trump may destroy the country, but he will never have the control exercises by a real strongman.
There are so many parallels between Hitler and Trump. Anyone who has read The Rise of the Third Reich will recognize so much. It is truly frightening. But dictators and would-be dictators almost always throw their devoted followers under the bus when they are no longer useful. Look at the fall of the Brown Shirts or the Night of the Long Knives in Germany. This is all terrifying.
I am devastated that a few evil people who yearn for power (or to stay out of jail) should knowingly endanger people. Trump’s plan to root out illegal immigrants sounds very much like Stalin’s Terror. Millions died. People were denounced for no good reason to the authorities, but once you weed picked up in the middle of the night, you were not coming home again. Even with the most stringent procedure (which Trump won’t have), hundreds if not thousands of people of color or people with the wrong last name will be picked up and booted from the country to some unknown fate. The gross inhumanity the Republicans show should result in them burning in the fires of hell, or at least going to prison. But I guess generalized cruelty is not a crime.
The media must highlight what has happened in Springfield. In as much as it is possible, people need to see the results of the crude actions of these politicians I also think if the authorities investigate they will find that this little tale originated in Russia. It sounds very on brand to me.
Trump should have been removed from consideration as President long since because he is guilty of treason among other things. He is openly threatening the country and says it will be bloody. I am shocked that there is no way to handle him, and I am shocked that his lawyers have not been fined or otherwise for wasting the courts’ time on spurious challenges to the charges against him. No one else of whatever rank would be treated like this.
I haven't listened to 'Chai Talk' for ages and I missed it so! This was a great one (they're all great!). I really enjoyed the exploration of the many layers of this deep-seated issue that seems so complex that it will never go away. So sad. :( You guys seemed so easy with one another and the conversation flowed so smoothly, almost like you were of one mind. Will keep an eye out for the next 'Chai Talk' that's for sure! Biden did not please the big corporate Donors, the billionaires so he was outed by corporate Democrats. Trump pleases the corporate donors. If he wins, they get tax breaks. If Kamala wins, she will please the corporate donors and mostly continue polices that are especially good for corporate donors. Trump is batshit crazy for sure. But he also said the sanest most important thing said on the debate stage. Biden and Harris foreign policies-Gaza-Ukraine have pushed us closer to nuclear war. I doubt if Trump read Chomsky or Jeffery Sachs and the host of scholars that agree with Trump on this. On this, he was correct, and I can assure you he resonated with this.
