Wait until Vivek finds out about that TV show that venerated a mediocre white guy real estate agent with a bad haircut and six bankruptcies as a titan of American business?

I was sad to read about Mark Burnett going to the dark side. In an earlier interview he had explained how he created the persona for the show and was not in favor of the politician. But now I read that he’s been named as some kind of representative to England??

Burnett was always the dark side. Before The Apprentice he wanted to make a similar show polishing the image of one Vladimir Putin. He knew he was creating a monster.

Goodness, James. Now I have to fact check that. Honestly I’m disgusted with all of it but we must stay engaged. [Just reading a review in The Guardian of Kevin Roberts’ book about burning down our institutions. He’s another extremely dangerous man with a megaphone.]

Vivek seems to really hate women, or not even acknowledge that smart “tech-savvy” women exist. Sad for him. Men are the ones who valued “prom queens” over mathlete queens, as a culture, but girls and women are crawling out of the back seat of that beer-soaked car, joining a robotics club, starting a business or getting their advanced degrees. With little encouragement from male culture.

From what I've seen and heard, most if not all MAGA men have extreme contempt and hate for women. It seems the more conservative one is, the psychosexual pathology deepens and starts to come to the surface and is very visible to others.

If Dems knew how to fight they’d be linking this to 40 years of defunding public education & making college unaffordable.

What Vivek missed is that the culture he talks about is a core feature of the MAGA base. Asimov mentioned it many years ago and it’s been around for decades (why was “Revenge on the Nerds” so popular?). The smart kids have always been ridiculed. Bottom line: he may be on to something, but it goes far deeper than he realizes. Cutting the Department of Education and privatizing education won’t help.

Nailed it. Again. Thank you for this brilliant posting! I for one am taking great pleasure in watching the knives come out. Bring it! And may they get so busy killing each other off that they forget about killing democracy.

It's not just H1-B immigrants. Republican employers are going to be pissed when their workforce is cut in half. Meat packing, construction, agriculture, hospitality. Good luck, America.

And when communities lose a strong tax base and all the groceries MAGAts thought would instantly be less costly aren’t available at all? I work in hospitality which won’t take a human-centric approach to much. (Exception: the late Harris Rosen, a mensch, who cared for the hotel workers, even providing on site health care.) The Orange Putz asked for 100+ visas for hospitality workers because too many hotels have been short staffed and many won’t work for his company. Will guests speak up?

And how behind is the MAGA Hindu in understanding the MAGA white sees no difference between the Hindus and the Muslims or the “Hindis” and the Mexicans? Fun times ahead if only we can stop grieving for democracy’s quick death and start looking at all these clowns with the derision they deserve. By clowns I don’t just mean Vivek et al, but include the nameless, faceless bloated egos in the Indian American community that voted for Trump.

Among other communities that did and those who stayed home for any reason as well. It’s beginning to dawn on more what they did. Will they revolt?

When you choose a moment of grave national danger to make your political point by staying home instead of voting, you deserve what you get. I think all of us who voted for sanity over chaos have a duty to remind those children of the consequences of their choice either to vote for Trump or to sit out the election, which is also choosing. They're getting exactly what they voted for.

Tulsi is a prime example. Although not Indian, she's become a mouthpiece for the Hindu nationalism of Indian PM Modi. And Trump wants to make that Putin/Assad/Modi-loving clown head of national intelligence. What could go wrong?

I hate to admit how much joy I'm getting from watching the MAGA meltdown. I hope it lasts, but I haven't forgotten the P25 controllers quietly watching their children bicker. Will they issue an internal smack-down? What's JD up to these days? Telling us dummies it's all just a joke, and we've got no sense of humour? That's his usual deek.

How out of touch is Vivek with life, in general? Does he think India has no prom queen and jock culture just because his parents were privileged enough to come from a caste that historically cornered the market in education?

And who's teaching all those STEM courses at universities? At my last institution, Directional State University in Illinois, most of the STEM faculty were foreign-born folks. These vital colleagues had started their academic lives in the US as either F-1 or J-1 student visa holders and then gone on to the H-1B, then Lawful Permanent Residency ("green" card), with many of them finally having achieved US citizenship. So all those future tech bros need the H-1B people to teach their STEM classes! Hah! -- we all need H-1B, it would seem. Even home-grown white engine majors.

This post ignores a 3rd pathway. American colleges and online certifications already do train many people for STEM careers. But large corps prefer to hire H1B from abroad vs local talent, in part because the now 10-year-long+ H1B handcuffs shackle the H1B employee to their employer until they get their green card. Meanwhile, waiting 10+years, the H1B employee gets married, buys a house, has kids, and now is even further shackled to their employer and now locale too. Plus now there are so many h1b employees that hiring managers prefer to hire other h1bs for their teams for cultural fit. It's to the point where long term h1b (and former h1b now us citizens) employees would also like to reduce h1b hiring because their children (usa raised, stem educated at usa colleges) are competing with the new h1bs (and potential h1bs) for tech jobs, made even more competitive by today's post-pandemic tech-layoffs landscape.
