Last night, Donald Trump, the oldest person to ever run for office, melted down in real-time and decided to “dance” at a rally for 39 minutes instead of answering questions. This isn’t normal. When he did answer questions, he gave incoherent, rambling answers bordering on the incomprehensible. He also talked about Hannibal Lecter again, because, you know, that’s just something we accept as normal right now.
The New York Times, our official paper of record, decided to sanewash the spectacle by describing it as an “improvisational departure.”
I’m old enough to remember non-stop, wall-to-wall coverage about President Biden’s fitness after he slurred his words, stuttered, and had a terrible debate performance. But, why are we still grading Trump on a curve?
Earlier today, Trump canceled a CNBC interview and he refused to sit with 60 Minutes or do another debate with Kamala Harris. When he is somewhat lucid, he talks about unleashing the military against US citizens and invoking the Alien Sedition Act. Perhaps this should be bigger news than some reports about Black voters turning away from Kamala Harris.
Corporate media isn’t going to change. They will keep bending the knee to bad-faith actors and trying to appease an increasingly violent right wing MAGA for the sake of ratings, access, and money.
Sam Seder has been in the trenches and fighting the good fight for 2
0 years since he started as co-host of “Air America.” Since then, he’s been the host of the popular “The Majority Report” and built up a progressive audience. He has always called out the failures of mainstream, establishment news media and attempted to correct the record.
He joins me to discuss the challenges and opportunities that exist for a liberal majority who are trying to fight back against corporate media apathy, complicity, and sanewashing of Trump’s extremism.
