Writer David Sirota discusses how his movie "Don't Look Up" was a fictional, black comedy but has instead become a prescient movie about the dangers of disinformation, corruption, and the broligarchy.
"Documentaries" like "Idiocracy" and "Don't Look Up" must be relatively easy to do as Trump and all the so called MAGA madness is just a grotesque caricature of the worst and dumbest of what we've always been. I think it was Seinfeld who said "Humans are the worst." And in many ways, Americans are the worst of the worst. I am so disgusted these days as I continue to simply wake up.
I loved the film and have urged others to see it because it's a cautionary tale based in the reality Karl Rove told us back in 2000 that the right was going to construct. And that architecture is what enabled a Donald Trump to be elected. The GOP is not only spineless, but also sheepish because they know.
When I watched Don't Look Up, it took me a long time to go to sleep that night. It was so disturbing, because I know it's so easily true. Just like Handmaid's Tale.
Thanks for introducing me to David Sirota's work the last time, Waj. The Lever is awesome and their podcast series "Master Plan" is one of THE best political/history shows, ever. Highly recommended. 👌🏼👍🏼💙
Now I'm gonna go watch "Don't Look Up" again, coz it's been a while. 😎🚫👀🆙
I voted Democrat not for Trump and his traitorous magna regime, the Benedict Arnold’s of our time in other words, traitors who have sided with the communist, Putin, and Russia to destroy our country
2025 agenda is an Anti Christ agenda who’s ideology is against Jesus Christ Jews , Christian , the American people and everyone else who doesn’t support the Trump regime. This spirit of the anti christ leads to War , hatred , violence, corruption, crime, chaos, fake news, destruction, death, fear, discrimination, Disinformation, misinformation, deceit, lies, destruction of our democracy and constitution.
I agree about a lot of this, and have been thinking Don't Look Up for a VERY long time. But I do have to say, if Bezos thought his new editorial direction was going to placate trump by being supportive---uh, he thought very wrong. The paper is RIFE with criticism of the administration, including the Editorial Board pieces. (And it actually had a pretty good review of Don't Look Up--disagreeing on the points you agree CAN be disagreed with, like the performance of the actors, but agreeing that its main point is just what you intended it to be).
I consider myself to left of center and agree with Progressive ideals; my only problem has been with the timeline in the Bush and post-Bush age. For example, at the time Universal Health Care was first (within this century) discussed much, the population was in fact NOT for it. But The ACA--attacked by the GOP STILL as "Socialist"-- is now hugely popular and SO is the idea of Universal Health Care because so many people have realized that the "socialist" ACA is pretty good, actually. Took a while but we've got where we needed to get. Assuming it isn't all wiped out by executive orders and a Congress that doesn't give a shit about what most of its constituents think.
There is, of course, nothing but full speed ahead on all fronts with opposing trumpelonism. There is nothing "Republican" about it, nothing remotely American.

George Carlin said something like, “ when you’re born, you get invited to a freak show. And when you’re born American, you get a front row seat”.

Really appreciated this! I thought Don’t Look Up was brilliant. Excited to check out Lever News. Don’t be a fascist!
Orange Leader is the one true source of truth.
Obey! Obey! Obey! But never look up, forward, or back…only down.

Yes! 😳
Laughed out loud! Not figuratively. Literally. And I'm sure Carlin had something to say about that too - the wholesale slaughtering of our language.

I have been reading the lever and didn't know it was the same person as don't look up.
