In the same week that Donald Trump and MAGA found a way to radicalize Puerto Ricans across America by inviting a comedian to compare the island to a “floating pile of garbage,” Trump decided to make his final case by appearing at a rally in a garbage truck dressed in cosplay. He also said America is “the garbage can of the world.”
When I think of unity, I think of Donald Trump.
How can you not when he referred to the majority of Americans voting against him as “horrible, horrible people” and said Democrats are “sick” and “evil.” Lovely. He can’t be bothered to apologize for Tony Hinchcliffe’s offensive “comedy” set that was thoroughly vetted, installed on the teleprompter, and performed at Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally. Nope. Trump said it wasn’t “a big deal.” His VP candidate J.D. Vance told everyone who was offended - which includes Black people, women, Jews, Muslims, and Puerto Ricans - to get over it.
With all of this, imagine my fake shocked face when MAGA unleashed faux outrage over President Biden’s comments and criticisms of Hinchcliffe’s set, which he later even clarified with context. Oh, Lord, they lost their minds! They wailed! They cried! They whined! They were so upset! How dare President Biden, who isn’t running, is 81 years old and has a stutter, use the “garbage” word even as their Orange Lizard King has referred to the majority as “scum” and recently said we were “the enemy from within.”
Hit dogs holler.
Then again, maybe they’re just hypocritical, snowflake Republican operatives who know they can “work the refs” and engage in bad-faith both sides false equivalence because corporate media will bend the knee and perform like a Pavlovian dog. True to form, that’s exactly what they did and spent countless ink on President Biden’s allegedly divisive and outrageous comment while flattening and ignoring the voluminous history of hate that Donald Trump has vomited for the past 9 years.
The corporate media is not made for this moment and they are not built for this fight. Here was a chance to set the record straight and give history, context, and compare and contrast Biden’s remarks to Trump’s absurd, hateful, recent history of cruelty and vulgarity, but, nope, most of them took the bait.
Well, I don’t bend the knee or get worked over. I love Michelle Obama, but when they go low, I say take out their knees and make them tap out. Also, I believe it works to do it with a smile on our faces. There’s no reason to be masochists and allow ourselves to be humiliated, mocked, bullied, ridiculed, and offended by MAGA just because the party of a violent insurrection has a perpetual temper tantrum.
You know who’s also pissed? Us. Women who have lost their rights. People of color who are sick and tired of being called “invaders” and “rapists.” Elders who are terrified of losing Social Security and Medicare. Veterans who aren’t “suckers and losers.” The majority remembers Trump’s failed violent insurrection and the fact he promised to be a “dictator for a day.” I’ll never bend the knee to fascists, and I’ll never concede the truth and facts to bad-faith MAGA talking points.
MAGA tears are sugar for my chai.
