i agree that the Palestinian perspective, and suffering, should have been given a slice of airtime. that was a serious omission, and could/should have been handled with the sensitivity and nuance that i believe Kamala is capable of. She should have directed the DNC (i assume she has that level of control?) to brilliantly thread that needle. I deeply hope, that this omission will not tank her chances, and that she will find a way to rectify this glaring omission quickly. Yes, her closing remarks were excellent on this topic but did not make up for the lack of dedicated time-slice (even tiny) and a Palestinian speaker.

You are right - it was worth reading the remarks from Ruwa Romman, and these comments would have been well-received by the delegates.

Harris' remarks were delivered with conviction. Most Democrats recognize that Netanyahu and his Orthodox government partners are obstacles to peace and to Palestinian self-determination. At the same time, most Americans believe in Israel's right to exist. They're not sure that Palestinian Arabs believe that.

There was enough controversy surrounding campus protests and other pro-Palestinian demonstrations that I understand the DNC's reticence to allow a speaker on this matter - although as you've stated, the proposed remarks were completely acceptable.

It wasn’t “a” speaker, it was a state representative who tromped around Georgia knocking on doors for Biden, who has been a party activist for 10 years, is younger and wants desperately to be able to tell her colleagues and constituents to vote for Harris.

In that case, it was even more of a blunder by the DNC.

See Mehdi Hasan on Zeteo yesterday with Romman, Layla Elabed, and Andy Levin.

She threw the Palestinians under the bus. American bombs will continue to fall on Gazan babies. She stood tall for the status quo.

That bar is in hell, CI, but we have to keep pushing. The fact UAW and elected officials and Jewish family members of hostages said there shouldve been Palestinians on this stage is a step forward.

America has engaged in the same horrific tactics against its indigenous peoples and Black Americans as those Israel deploys against the Palestinians. Maybe confronting this truth is more than most of its politicians can bear. Stealing land, murdering women and children, lynchings, involuntary sterilizations and massacres are disgusting and shameful acts regardless of who commits them, and it's way past time to stop sponsoring them, including the use of taxpayer money to pay for them. The one necessary step towards this goal is not being taken because the hypocrisy must be preserved.

I’m in the kind of mood today that not being able to find my phone in my bag almost made me cry. When Israel is secure? What is the measure of secure? Who defines secure? Was Israel secure before October 7? A radically different approach is needed if that is going to happen. I’m deeply disappointed. It’s not that I had any great expectation. Two minutes for Rep. Romman could not be found? Pannetta got to speak? Un-f’ing-believable.

Israel tends to jeopardize its own security. This has been true since 1948. All they have ever wanted to do was steal land and drive out the Palestinians.

I think politicians overestimate the support taxpayers feel for Israel, especially when the killing of Palestinians seems to never end, yet we are being told the supply of Hamas fighters is still infinite, and that blowing up 100 noncombatants is a justifiable bit of collateral damage just to kill two "Hamas operatives" allegedly hiding in a hospital or a school. Kamala Harris should not continue Biden's boneheaded policies on Israel.

The Democratic Convention: Not a single word about how you and I as Americans are paying for and providing the bombs to kill over 40,000 Palestinians — over half of them children and the elderly...while Kamala talked of ceasefire and a two- state solution while America continues to arm the genocide...Israel does not want there to be a two-state solution and America only really cares about Imperialism-militarism-might is right-rhetoric about freedom is as big a lie as Trump ever told. Palestinians are a disposable people of no interest to American imperialism. As I listened to Kamala's speech, I wondered how many Palestinians children were being killed while she spoke. Israel would run out of those bombs 5 days after America stopped sending them.

I almost missed the beautiful irony of this match up. Who else would God put in front of Trump but a fierce prosecutor?
