Pope Francis embodied a Christianity devoted to service, helping the marginalized, and preaching universal love. Meanwhile, MAGA worship Trump, cruelty, and the grift, while cosplaying with a cross.
This is what I've been saying for years. You have worded this perfectly. I'm an 80 year old catholic and want to thank you for clearly defining the blatant hypocrisy so many pseudo religious people push. It sends people running, screaming away from the love of God. It's evil.
Certainly deserves to be a Doctor of the Church, unlike Ratzinger, who was personally responsible for the suppression of abuse whilst in charge of the Congregation for the Defence of the Faith. Many initiatives, all nurturing the warmth and Beneficence of the Church, and in the same vein as the Dalai Lama, a consummate human...
I don't know how I'm ever going to get out of my mind a picture of that disgusting excuse for a vice president at his side.
I still don't understand how he actually got a audience with the Pope knowing the pope was on his deathbed. Knowing that it was Easter weekend. I know everything about kindness and being above others and not wanting to make judgments but come on. Any true Christian would have a hard time getting that out of their brain. It just gives me one more reason to hate. And not even God can make that hit go away
I am Catholic and viewed Pope Francis as a follower of Jesus' teachings. I recently realized that when trump - and all of his brainwashed sycophants - profess to be christian, it means something different. They mean they're not Jewish, or Hindu, or Muslim, or Buddhist, or any other religion. They don't mean they follow Jesus' teachings, they just mean they're not one of those "lesser" religions. It makes me want to cry at how clueless - and cruel - they are.
Wow you sure went far back for that one. (Galileo) Generally speaking I tend to err on the side of Science, BUT this pope touched my heart. I am not religious, I am not saying I believe in mythical beings. He stepped OUT of the staunch dogma espoused for centuries, and embraced gay marriage for instance. He taught kindness, love, peace and tolerance. If you want to argue about those points I will fight to the death. I have personally always thought evolution was definitely "a thing" ... Before you get on your high horse, SCIENCE at one point in time was nothing more than conjecture until we had proof it was all just theories. Germ theory for instance, and carbon dating, black holes, and so much more. While I do agree that "getting an education on evolution from the Catholic Church"...is absurd, but this pope was a jesuit .. "" Jesuits generally embrace evolutionary theory, viewing it as compatible with their faith and understanding of God's creation. Many Jesuits, like Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, have explored the intersection of science and religion, suggesting that God's creative power is evident in the process of evolution. The Catholic Church itself does not have an official position on the specifics of evolution, allowing for theistic evolution, where God is seen as guiding the evolutionary process". But my original point was he was a kind, accepting and peace loving man. He certainly gave that message to us all including JD Vance and to all who ever heard him speak.
I'm a Jewish atheist, or at least I think I'm still a Jewish atheist, but there was definitely something special about Pope Francis. As you say, "He taught kindness, love, peace, and tolerance," and as you also say, he embraced gay marriage. I will miss his presence in the world.
Pope Francis's kind and compassionate stance in regard to immigrants and others that are marginalized no matter THEIR religious affiliation endeared him to many people of varying faiths. The world was better with him in it.
My sentiments exactly. And I so agree with you that the world was better with Pope Francis in it! And I so hope that the Catholic Church will pick another pope whose presence will enhance the world.
I love Pope Francis. I hate that his legacy is being tied to this evil empire. Please, everyone, share the other moments of our dear Pope Francis’ life and not sully his memory.
Perhaps if there were more people like Pope Francis in the Catholic Church, there would be less lapsed Catholics (like myself). Even removed from religion or any faith, there was much to admire about him. That moral goodness, empathy, humbleness and sincerity, is not valued enough in today's world. Money and power do not make you rich in the ways that count.
Pope Francis was a great man. He actually preached Christ's teachings of love, mercy and compassion instead of just religious dogma aimed at perpetuating church power structures.
Those people who go around claiming to be Christians but act more like Phrasees, have their day coming.Matthew 7:22-23 says"Depart from me you workers of lawlessness,I never knew you."
We are supposed to love our neighbors, not hate them and pass judgement on them. These people will find out soon enough what happens when you mess around with God.
Pope Francis cared about ordinary people and people who were poor, sick and mistreated. Some of his very last words were on ending the war in Gaza, that Palestinians are people too who deserve mercy and grace.
May his memory be a Blessing.
And Israel, are you listening?Remember when it was your people who were being mercilessly exterminated out of existence? Don't be like those Nazis. Please stop this war!!You can stop anytime. Now is as good a time as any other.
In 1963, when Pope John XXIII died, I wept. He seemed to be much like the religious leaders - warm, caring about the world’s people, and regardless of our different religions, someone who embodied what my cousin, a Rabbi, taught our Confirmation class, the way those who believe or don’t in God/a god would exemplify those beliefs through actions and encouragement to others to care.
I’ve found no religion or any who lead them to be without fault. I would far prefer to respect those who espouse care than those who need the center of attention.
Today in response to all the pros and cons on the Pope now that he has died. Feel free to circulate if inclined.
There will be no peace and justice on earth until humans get past mythical beliefs, based on fear of hell and hope for heaven. Myths not based on any real evidence, based on faith, which is accepting something based on no evidence, because you want to, or have been indoctrinated. Religions tell people to give up reason and just believe what the ancient book says or the current interpreter tells us to follow like sheep. The possibility of unity of humans on earth will only be realized when we think and decide with the same methodology: scientific method, based on evidence and rational thought and logic. 2 + 2 =4 in all languages and all literate people. Religion is different so many places around the world since their beliefs are derived from different myths and beliefs, none of them based on evidence, rational thought, scientific method etc. this makes a unified understanding of human development and human well being impossible, unlike our common understanding of arithmetic, gravity etc. To this time religious people in the USA have a lower acceptance of Evolution than any advanced country other than Turkey. The only reason Evolution is not more accepted by the USA religions and religions around the less educated world is it conflicts with their dogma. Evolution destroys the creation of humans as written in Genesis. If you have read Genesis you must acknowledge that there are two different and contradictory versions of God creating humans within pages of each other. We need an Enlightenment 2.0 before we destroy our ecosystem and each other.
There is a big difference between being a "Religious Zealot" and being a kind, accepting, tolerant, peaceful man who had nothing but love for all mankind, he even chose Francis 's name because of St. Francis's love of animals. While the Crusades are examples of the worst, this pope's whole life was about peace love and hope. No one can take that message away from him. He was on deaths door...we were all warned he would not make it, then like a miracle he recovered enough to give this last Easter Sunday's message and to give that possibly equally important message to JD Vance. Just 2 hours before his death. The way Evolution was explained to me in Catholic school was there were no days and nights during gods creating earth....they could well have been billions of years between each day. It is possible to rationalize both schools of thought. However we got here, we should not be destroying it in this manner. On that we agree.
Getting an education on Evolution from the Catholic Church is like learning about our Constitution from Trump. It is not possible for critical thinkers with an open mind to rationalize both schools of thought. One is based on scientific method, facts and evidence and rational thought and the other is based on no evidence, myths, and faith. You could believe anything you want to based on faith. Pope Francis was a more kind person than most Popes. He did not however encourage critical thinking based on facts and continued all the anti-science that religions push. When you assume that something you can't explain is caused by God you stop looking for answers. Scientists keep looking and that is why we do not still live in caves and don't think the earth is flat and the center of our solar system or universe. It took the Catholic Church several hundred years to acknowledge that Galileo was right. They forced him to essential eat the words of his discovery and live in house confinement until his death for the "sin" of discovering that the Bible is not all true and the church doctrine (dogma) was wrong.
This is what I've been saying for years. You have worded this perfectly. I'm an 80 year old catholic and want to thank you for clearly defining the blatant hypocrisy so many pseudo religious people push. It sends people running, screaming away from the love of God. It's evil.
MAGA is the worst and Pope Francis will be remembered for his kindness and humanity.
Thanks for laying out all the hypocrisy in its full ingloriousness.
Bless the pontiff for having a bishop give Vance a talking to on compassion
before their sunday meeting.

The Pope's passing is a shock to call Christians.

The light has switched on for science, it hasn't for metaphysics. Religious beliefs are fair game both in favour and against...
Every important issue must be open to serious questioning or we will all be sheep.
But there is a deposit in science of which we have reason to be confident, and it has great explanatory power…
