Donald Trump’s approval ratings are tumbling as the cases of measles and prices of eggs are skyrocketing in America. The trade war is a failure, the kidnapping and deportation of innocent immigrants is increasingly unpopular, and America has now become a cautionary tale for countries around the world of what not to do. Trump’s first 100 days were so terrifying and god-awful that he single-handedly revitalized liberals in Canada and helped Mark Carney surge to victory.
Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for the Democratic Party in America, which is still registering its lowest favorability rating in nearly 35 years. It seems voters aren’t inspired by septugenarians who are unfortunately dying in office and unable or unwilling to passionately fight against a fascist movement that is gutting our social services and dismantling our institutions. Instead of investing in popular progressives who have brand recognition and positive ratings, the Democratic establishment remains wedded to the corporate, consultant class and desperately covets alleged moderate (white) voters at the expense of their own racially diverse base.
One of their many ingenious ideas is to use bad-faith GOP talking points against “wokeness” to attack their voters. Shockingly, it hasn’t gone over well. Another tactic is to platform right-wing extremists, like Charlie Kirk and Steve Bannon, on their podcasts and agree with their talking points. That also didn’t work. Now, they’re raising millions to create and invest in the “liberal” Joe Rogan, because what says authenticity and honesty more than a paid schill of the establishment, right?
In this Chai Talk, I invited my America Unhinged co-host Francesca Fiorentini, a comedian, to critique the Democratic Establishment's ossified thinking and strategy and offer constructive ideas on how they can re-engage with the masses who are trying to resist a fascist regime.
