Our humble Substack has just crossed 25,000 subscribers! Thank you for your support & readership. Please let me know what you'd like to hear & see, & do consider becoming a paid subscriber.
You are a very relatable person, the kind of person I would prize as a friend, and a great spokesman for many of my concerns.
My lifetime concern is nature & the environment and how we are destroying it. My recent greatest concern is our loss of freedom & democracy & how our government lets off crooks & traitors in high places. Another huge concern of mine is injustice of any kind but especially economic injustice & the huge & ever growing disparity in wealth & power between rich & poor.
The economic injustice and loss of freedom and democracy are related to the decline in ecosystem vitality. The corporate/billionaire grifters are enriching themselves at the expense of our biosphere and this really is the number one issue of our time, as we cannot survive without robust ecosystems. Our government has been failing us on this urgent issue.
1. I follow you here and on your YouTube videos with Danielle Moody and Mary Trump. I will become a paid subscriber
2. Suggestions for content: can you please provide content that addresses what an average citizen (like me) who has a full time career and somewhat of a busy life can do to get involved in pro democracy. I do donate to actblue but I feel like that’s not enough. Is there a place I can go to become more of an active citizen and be more a part of a new movement post 2024? It would be nice to hear from people who can give suggestions on how to start.
Great suggestion, Terry. Each video I do try to ask a guest what the rest of us can do. Brian addressed this in today's video about the press, but I'll be bringing on democracy advocates who touch upon this very issue.
The buffet of choices is wide and varied and depends upon your areas of interest. The group Indivisible has a really interesting history of development and has been really impactful in progressive accomplishments. It has small and very large committees throughout the United States. A great base to learn from.
The States Projects and Field Team 6 are in that same large breadth nationwide category. The Union group was developed with support from The Lincoln Project although it is independent of it in its works.
The National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC) developed by Eric Holder and B. Obama has been very successful in countering gerrymandering of states district. I have learned so much from the attorneys I follow and have focused donations to Marc Elias’ Democracy Docket. His work is phenomenal; he and his team are so knowledgeable about the specific legal shenanigans the MAGA world is up to.
For myself after lots of self educating about these groups I’ve pretty much settled on “adopting” a couple of states ( Az and NC) and supporting the groups which support those states with a focus on registering the Tribes voters in AZ and the youth vote in AZ and NC.
Hope this helps. Im sure many others will share their experiences with other groups.
Hi Terry -- Vote Riders is a favorite organization that I joined -- it's the opportunity to write letters to voters in all elections, not just the big ones. They do research to see what is the most effective way to reach voters. They educate voters on the process in their respective states and have folks that interact with voters to help them get IDs, etc. Activate America does post cards and they are active throughout the year with many different activities to support democracy.
They research and provide lists of Democrats who haven't voted recently and the outreach is to encourage them to vote. I don't know the machinations of how they compile the lists - but I encourage you to visit their website https://www.voteriders.org/. Activate America is www.activateamerica.vote.
I don’t have any new ideas or suggestions. I just wanted to say that I think you’re brilliant and insightful and brave so please keep up the good work.
Barbara, the ACLU is planning a massive set of legal challenges. Also, share your ideas here. You never know who might be reading. Above all, know that he will self-destruct.
Waj, I was so glad when you decided to start a Substack! I think I first followed you on Twitter after the U-Crane segment with Rick Wilson/Don Lemon because of how you spoke truth to power in such an enlightening—funny—way. Loved your book! You have excellent interviewing skills—Chai Talk and the William Shatner SXSW interview!
What I would like for content is to keep pushing the progressive narrative of the Democratic Party—I’m done with the old-school centrist storyline which MSM can keep pushing. The ultimate—a Chai Talk with AOC!
I have a request for content, would it be possible to get someone on to talk about what we can do now to financially protect ourselves before January 20th? I have retired parents who are doing ok now but we worry about what financial hardships we might encounter. We are buying things now we have been putting off that will be impacted by tariffs, but we can’t think of what else we should be doing.
Outstanding! The sane people are abandoning X in massive numbers, Elon wants to control the narrative, even tho’ he had preached the opposite. I was blocked from tweeting, for stating the truth, > That Trump got Elon on the ‘Nose Blast,’ Cocaine. .
paid here. Besides the awfulness of trump and his appointees, I'm horrified by the situation in Gaza. Already in Lebanon shots have been fired with a "you breached it first" volley going on.
My main request is that your videos of interviews be limited to roughly 1/2 hour. A lot of yours are--one reason I subscribed--, but I don't have time to fit longer ones in. Any chance of splitting the longer ones into chunks, or at least providing transcripts? (Maybe you do; I just don't tend to click on long videos and I HATE podcasts: if I'm going to take the time to listen to someone I want to be able to SEE them, too. Otherwise, reading works best for me.
I do enjoy reading your blog. Unfortunately I currently am paying for far to any paying sights to sing up for a new one. Many of the sights i currently pay for I have fallen out of favoe with and plan on dropping next year. When I do so will keep you in mind as a paying subscriber cause Ienjoy reading your take on things. News News and more news that straight from the hip and a truthful take on whats happening in the world. Always enjoy a tad oped as well

How can we write to NONVOTERS

Should have flopped the photo, so the little guy was showing you a Left Hook, instead of a right.
Salaams Waj, obviously love your work and style. Will continue to be a paid member and encourage others to do so as well.
Just want to say thank you for this work.
Glad to be one of your paid subscribers. Keep fighting the good fight. We're there with you ! ! !
