Dear Readers,
I am very proud, happy, and thankful to announce that The Left Hook officially has over 25,000 subscribers.
This was a small, humble endeavor I started in the Summer that was meant to be an outlet and playground for me to bluntly and honestly write and comment on the political, cultural, and social chaos of the day without engaging in the absurd, frustrating, and mind-numbing sanewashing and “both sides” false equivalences that now dominate corporate media.
The Left Hook also started with the intention of adding yet another playground to the growing, independent media ecosystem of progressive writers, thinkers, and commentators who refuse to bend the knee, obey in advance, or stay complacent as authoritarian forces systematically erode our liberties, freedoms, and flawed institutions.
Being a humble, left-handed son of Pakistani immigrants, I assumed I’d eventually get a merry band of 10,000 readers and we would call it a day. But, there’s been growth in the past month thanks to all of you and your support. We’ve been doing something right, so let’s keep doing it, and let’s keep growing.
I have two humble requests:
Please let me know what you’d like to hear, read, and see here on The Left Hook. What topics should be covered? Who should I interview? What new features would you like to see? Just let me know, and since I’m currently a one-man band please be patient with me as I try to evolve, grow, and add more toys and slides to the playground.
If you have noticed, I have intentionally kept every piece of content free. I am a terrible capitalist. But, in all sincerity, I believe democracy will die behind a paywall. The overwhelming majority of my subscribers are free. If you like what I’ve done in the past 6 months, then please do consider becoming a paid subscriber. It goes A LONG way to helping me sustain this and keeping it free for folks who are unable to pay due to their current financial situation. Right now, I’m doing this on “inshallah money,” but, you know, real money also works great.
Regardless, I am grateful to all of you for your readership and loyalty and I hope the content has been useful, interesting, and, at the very least, never boring.

You are a very relatable person, the kind of person I would prize as a friend, and a great spokesman for many of my concerns.
My lifetime concern is nature & the environment and how we are destroying it. My recent greatest concern is our loss of freedom & democracy & how our government lets off crooks & traitors in high places. Another huge concern of mine is injustice of any kind but especially economic injustice & the huge & ever growing disparity in wealth & power between rich & poor.
1. I follow you here and on your YouTube videos with Danielle Moody and Mary Trump. I will become a paid subscriber
2. Suggestions for content: can you please provide content that addresses what an average citizen (like me) who has a full time career and somewhat of a busy life can do to get involved in pro democracy. I do donate to actblue but I feel like that’s not enough. Is there a place I can go to become more of an active citizen and be more a part of a new movement post 2024? It would be nice to hear from people who can give suggestions on how to start.
