America’s unwillingness to confront its sordid love affair with racism and Islamophobia is a throughline to explain our crackdown on immigrants, our love affair with war, and the smearing of Mamdani.
Mamdani’s ideas aren’t radical, his ideas are about treating people with respect and decency, but the DNC isn’t into decency, if they were they would go in and reform Congress to work together for the benefit of the American people instead of going the status quo and fighting with other congressman to actively make our lives worse.
Colbert lost me as well this week because of the way he went after Mamdani. Islamophobia is just as bad as anti-semitism. So tired of the double standard. And Adam lost me as well supporting Israel’s war on Iran after their genocide of Gaza.
These men who have been and are leaders going for Cuomo must be afraid of dealing with growth and want to maintain the status quo and their own pocket books.
It does need it. THey have needed a villian since 9/11. THey couldn't SEE where the attack happened and they needed a "place" to set it down. And, they are afraid they can't hold on to power with people who do not "relate" to" the vocabulary, and meaning. Combine both? You get a "target" to fight. AND no human group wants to give up power. Cuomo didn't want to yet? The younger voters don't understand the language, can't join up with the people trying to kill them, so they empower a Momdami who raps hisi views. Tupac started the commetary through hihs art, and the language was unknown, but scary! White peple don't want to give up power. AND some who want the power, try to agree but find themselves under the bus. The current system is in a tug of war. DO they join up with the racist power (Clarence Thomas) or tap into the younger voice which IS a new power. They don't get the rap. They don't understand a Muslim at ease? They don't understand that he HAS the power, because he IS the future.
I love Eddie Glaude’s work—I’ve read and reread his Begin Again: James Baldwin’s America and its Urgent Lessons for Our Own. It was a privilege to find you talking to him on Substack Live. Thank you so much for a thoughtful, moving conversation.
Thank you so much for a very dynamic discussion. Thank you for bringing all these important issues to the forefront. So disappointed in Hakeem Jeffries. Where is our leadership?
Zohran Mamdani is a very bright light bravely showing the way.
Thank you both. Playing it safe is a big circle jerk that the status quo people hiding their fears an insecurities do since they are stuck in their king of the mountain game.
Yes, the universe is trying to recalibrate us. There are some deeply embedded
fears of letting go of the establishment. We need to empower the voices of those that can be accountable and hold others accountable. The constant use of hatred to make enemies is a way to keep people in fear of growth. Keeps people dependent on those that have power.
Applause all around for this episode!!! 👏
The same Dems who voted for the Laken Riley act and the SAVE Act are now sending me emails asking for money. They can fuck all the way off.
Thank you Wajahat and Eddie!!
This conversation is a priceless lesson. I am grateful to have the opportunity to hear you. Thank you.

White supremacy is certainly the "gift" that keeps on giving! Ugh. Maybe now, though, we can try something new? Maybe?
Yes, Adam just lost many of us.

He's a soldier, that's the lens he looks through.

Clyburn just broke many of our hearts. We will feel our Holy grief and move on from him. Perhaps he will adjust and stretch into growth and love.
A very sad event. Why was he so afraid?
I loved this conversation!!! I loved the intelligent and thoughtful ideals!!! Thank you!!!
Another fine essay. Thank you. You give heart to the good people who fight the fear that Agent Orange and his band are forever.
Yes, we are complex. Demonizing the other is fear based not growth based.
With so much mendacity, how good to hear honest men talk.
