The right-wing extremists on the Supreme Court blocked President Joe Biden’s attempt at student-loan forgiveness; however, they magically found a way to allow their future king, President Trump, to dismantle the Department of Education and fire 1,400 employees.
Some of you are asking, “Wait, is this legal? How can the President just bypass Congress and destroy a Congressionally-created Department?”
When you’re a Republican President with a Republican majority in the House, Senate, and Supreme Court, the law is like Play-Doh, and you can just go off of vibes and feelings and stuff.
In another unsigned ruling courtesy of the emergency docket, the Supreme Court’s conservative Reeks blocked an order by Judge Myong Joun, who issued a preliminary injunction in May reversing the mass layoffs and concluded that the Trump Administration’s “true intention is to effectively dismantle the Department of Education.”
As disciples of the unitary executive theory, the right-wing hacks in Black robes are rubber-stamping Trump and MAGA’s march towards authoritarianism. Who needs checks and balances and a representative democracy when you can have your own corrupt, white nationalist avatar chokehold the country back to the 19th century?
Thankfully, the liberal judges dissented. In particular, Justices Jackson and Sotomayor have become more vocal and blunt in their recent criticisms, signaling to Democrats and the public that they are part of a rogue Court that is enabling Trump’s fascism. “When the Executive publicly announces its intent to break the law, and then executes on that promise, it is the Judiciary’s duty to check that lawlessness, not expedite it,” Sotomayor wrote in the dissent.
The question remains what will Democrats and the majority do to reclaim and reform a thoroughly corrupt Supreme Court that serves at the pleasure of Donald Trump’s whims?
