Folks, you know things are spiraling out of control when I find myself agreeing with Tucker Carlson and GOP Rep. Thomas Massie.
Earlier tonight, Carlson released a clip of his forthcoming interview with chicken hawk Ted Cruz in which he eviscerated the Texan Senator for not knowing basic facts about the country he wants to bomb. The MAGA Reeks, such as Senators Cruz and Graham, have received their AIPAC talking points and are supporting war criminal Netanyahu’s lifelong quest for regime change in Iran. Of course, they won’t fight in the war, but they’re perfectly fine cosplaying with their rifles as generations of innocent Iranians might lose their lives, and US security is placed at risk.
Carlson, who is one of the most odious people alive, represents the MAGA base that took Donald Trump at his word when he promised an “America First” policy. That originally meant Trump was committed to a non-interventionist policy that focused on investing in America instead of helping foreign countries like Israel drag the United States into needless wars. Rep. Massie, backed up by AOC and Rep. Khanna, has already said he opposes the war, and that President Trump first needs Congressional approval.
Well, during the fifth day of Israel’s escalating conflict with Iran, Trump has done a 180 and is now saying what “America First” means is like, just your opinion, man. Trump is using “we” to describe Israel’s war efforts and publicly called for Iran’s “unconditional surrender.”
Why any sovereign country would “surrender” to two foreign powers without engaging in outright war remains a mystery that Trump apparently can’t solve, but he persists nonetheless. Trump poured gasoline on the fire by further suggesting the United States could assassinate Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Trump also told the city of Tehran, which houses 17 million people, to evacuate, thereby drastically increasing the likelihood of war and a massive regional conflict that threatens to involve numerous countries and violent extremist groups.
It’s a lot to take in, especially as Americans are still reeling from multiple crises at home. Thankfully, I invited two Middle East foreign policy experts, Trita Parsi and Adam Weinstein, from the Quincy Institute of Responsible Statescraft to connect the dots and explain how a war with Iran would make the world less safe and weaken the United States of America.
Give us a watch.
