The MAGA cult is full of broken little boys with daddy issues. They don't even realize that their spank-me bro fantasies where 'daddy's home' is a threat rather than a cause for joy is telegraphing their deep-down, unfulfilled cry of 'Daddy, please love me.'

From The Felon on down, this MAGA baby-man obsession with hurting and being hurt is evidence of long-term, unresolved psychological damage from their childhoods. They're a bunch of broken, disturbed individuals.

It's very sad to see so much hate and division in our society. When we took oath in the military to defend America, it's to defend our freedom and justice for all, not to serve a self declared messiah claiming to be a patriot who loves America. Trump and his MAGA wants to destroy America. Thank ya for standing up to this 🙏. God bless usa

The irony of indisciplined and indulgent individuals overflowing with excitement at the thought of corporal punishment for perceived abstract weaknesses. This mass public display of kneejerk cruelty is psychological projection in its purest form.

This is a fascinating theme. Thank you for illuminating it for us. Many years ago I “discovered” this very biblical story line — powerful Fathers disciplining unruly, disobedient and insufficiently subservient children —- alive & well in neoliberal economics. Yep. Just replace “father” with “market.” The market, like the angry vengeful God of the Hebrew Bible, punishes anyone who gets in the way of the Market’s dictates … Anyway, my point is that this story line is deeply embedded in our culture generally & in evangelical culture specifically. We shouldn’t be surprised that as people’s lives become less & less economically secure they retreat to a childish posture of seeking to appease the terrifying gods that are wrecking their lives.

Bob Dylan's really good at using themes deeply embedded in national psyche, his song Highway 61 takes this on in what always struck me as a musical and satirical masterpiece: "God said to Abraham, Kill me a son, Abe said what, you must be putting me on, God says no, Abe says so, Where do you want this killin' done" (Doing it from memory, might be a bit off)

Thank you for highlighting this. I've heard many of his base refer to him as "daddy" and it always skeeves me out. I guess growing up with an abusive, alcoholic father is part of the reason. Frued would have a hay day with these people.

I believe that his mother’s desertion when Tucker Carlson was 6 is the most important determinant of who he is and why he is that way.

I don't know her story. Did she desert Carlson, or was she driven away by a horrible husband? Did she abandon Tucker to preserve her sanity?

We only know the story he chose to tell, which is she abandoned him to become a “hippie.” That also explains a lot.

It appears she may have been a raging untreated addict and alcoholic. "She eventually lost custody of her two sons after her husband, Richard Carlson, alleged she was not a competent mother because of marijuana, cocaine and alcohol abuse"

Also, presidents aren't fathers or kings. They head the executive branch of the federal government. That's it. In a perfect world you wouldn't know their name.

Look up the statistics on child abuse, physical and sexual, in this country. It's horrifying and telling. Foster care systems are overwhelmed. There are many damaged adults trying to lead reasonable lives, but some are not capable of that, yet. The men cited in this piece (except for Doug Emhoff) are clear examples.
