A respected journalist's popular course on race and media was abruptly cancelled by Columbia University during its crackdown on student activists. Well, Karen Attiah has the last word and last laugh.
I can't stand any more "bro", name calling, alert alert alert, hyper broadcasts anymore! They are not just coming from the right and that way of discussing things just adds to all the problems.
You and Heather Cox Richardson have what I need. Thabk You So Much.
This is so inspiring. Thank you so much for featuring Karen. (I hadn't been following the events at Columbia very closely so I needed this.) This break-out on her own is so bold and timely, the course sounds so amazing and the response makes my heart glow. Karen, herself, might be the most genuine college professor I've ever encountered. (I know it's a low bar, but still.) Now I've got to check out her substack. Thanks again.
The Core Curriculum at Columbia when I was there was all about dead white men. That was in the 90s. I thought it had changed. Clearly the appetite for change is there!
I loved this conversation! Thanks for being my debut Substack Live! We move!
I took Cultural History of Harlem when I was a student at Columbia. I did a lot of research at the Schomburg Center.
Columbia lost a jewel. Great interview, Waj.
What a wonderful conversation! Karen, I cried a little for you ☺️ I'm so excited for your new adventure!
Thank you so, so much!!
Yay for so many people signed up!
Wow got in before the signups were closed and I can NOT wait to take this course.
I’m in awe of both of you. Keep doing what you’re doing - it’s SO needed!! Thank you!
Nothing is more powerful than an idea whose time has come
I really love your interveiws.
