The Nerd Reich, as coined by journalist Gil Duran, is celebrating and welcoming America's economic and political collapse so they can profit off our pain and move towards creating their technocracy.
This was my first time watching you, and you were both great! Made so much sense and pulled many threads together. Watched Ruth Ben-Ghiat's Lucid chat earlier today, and am working my way through Katherine Stewart's Money, Lies, and God. Very happy to have your pithy overview. Thank you!
The only disagreement I have with this assessment is the idea that we have until midterms to reverse this takedown. It seems like it is moving much too fast to wait. People have to get on the streets and strike right now! Also, I haven’t seen anyone advise on whether to get out of the stock market and what to do with the money to save what assets we have.
Highly recommend keeping up with Dave Troy's work; the whitepaper linked at the bottom of his most recent article is a living document (updated regularly), and has been incredibly helpful since he first published it in November.
As an old woman of 86 (going on 87 I trust), the idea that these powerful people are trying to figure out how to live forever, is very pathetic, a weakness in their souls, which they have in some form, and in their MOs. After all they could help other people, be seriously useful, and when they do get to be old, if that be the case, they'll find that their attitude towards their existence and its longevity really changes. Despite their lack of empathy in their youth, they will find themselves isolated by the deaths of those in their circle who have gone before them. That's inevitable. And worst of all, their memories will not be of love but of money, which they will (at last) find out is a chilly entity that doesn't actually know who they are.
Thank you for a fascinating and very informative conversation. I’m curious as to what Paul Krugman’s take would be on this purposeful economic destruction.
"I understand why Krugman wants to view Donald Trump’s trade policy—especially his erratic, often self-defeating tariffs—as the bumbling chaos of a vicious bumbling orangutang motivated by ignorance, populist posturing for FOX, and petty vendettas. But these apparently stupid and erratic policies are, in fact, logical instruments, when seen from a different perspective."
I thoroughly enjoyed the chat. Why is mainstream media so naive, and why do they keep us in the dark 🙄 There are so many great minds on Substack and as a Canadian, I could not be more grateful!
Thank you SO MUCH for having Gil Duran on and amplifying his work -- all of us Cassandras that have been trying to get folks to wake up and listen to Gil, Dave Troy, Jenny Cohn, Olga Lautman, Dina Khapaeva, Marietje Schaake, Masha Gessan... It's been like herding cats uphill in a hurricane with a hangover. The fact that this information is gaining traction is a huge relief and an inspiration to redouble our efforts.
Thank you, Waj, for introducing me to Gil. Fascinating conversation.
