The only shocking development from this theatrical distraction and GOP cover-up was a brief disruption caused by Rep. Lauren Boebert leaking an unauthorized photo of the proceedings to Benny Johnson, a right-wing influencer and totally 100% heterosexual conservative culture warrior.
Overseas, the DOJ’s release of the Epstein Files has resulted in actual arrests and criminal investigations. Andrew is no longer a Prince and is being investigated for sharing sensitive information with Epstein during his time as trade envoy. Lord Mandelson, the former UK Ambassador to the US, has resigned due to this ties to Epstein, thereby imperilling the Starmer government, and was just arrested and released last week. Former Norwegian Foreign Minister Borge Brende just resigned from his role as the President and CEO of the World Economic Forum following revelations of his significant ties to Epstein. Both Harvard’s Larry Summers and Nobel laureate Richard Axel of Columbia resigned from their univeristies this week due to their extensive ties to the pedophile.
However, Donald Trump, the man mentioned more than any other name in the Files and who was Epstein’s “closest friend” for over a decade, has not been asked by the GOP to answer any questions. Trump says it’s time to “move on,” even as the Justice Department announced it is examining whether the FBI withheld information concerning credible accusations of sexual assault committed by the President.
Clearly, we’re all witnessing a massive “cover-up,” which is the description used by Hillary Clinton earlier today.
To make matters worse - as if they could get any worse - Trump and the GOP are dangerously ramping up their illegal plans to rig the upcoming elections.
The Washington Post reported that a group of right-wing activists is working with the White House to circulate an executive order declaring an emergency that would give Trump extraordinary powers over voting. This is a fear I’ve articulated since last year. If backed into a corner, Trump would cite a manufactured emergency and then punt the election. He’d quell dissent by invoking the Insurrection Act and then declaring martial law.
There is still time for us to raise hell and sound the alarm.
