Ms. Rachel, who has devoted her life to educating and empowering kids, was labeled “Antisemite of the Week” by the advocacy group StopAntisemitism, which also asked Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate the beloved and popular YouTube host on whether she’s getting paid to advance Hamas propaganda.
Did she do multiple Sieg Heils like Elon Musk? Did she dine with white nationalist and antisemite Nick Fuentes like Donald Trump? Did she promote the white supremacist “replacement theory” like GOP Rep. Elise Stefanik? Nope. All she did was use her platform to advocate for Palestinian children in Gaza who are facing genocide and on the brink of starvation.
That’s a step too far for pro-Israel hawks and corporate media who have decided to do a shameful “both sides” coverage of this ridiculous non-controversy.
This is the NYT’s headline and framing: “Why Tot Celebrity Ms. Rachel Waded Into the Gaza Debate.”
“Debate,” folks.
Meanwhile, NYU is withholding the diploma of student commencement speaker Logan Rozos because he used his speech to condemn Israel’s genocide. They are also pursuing “disciplinary actions,” even though the student body wildly applauded during his speech and gave him a standing ovation. The “Free speech” mouth breathers of the right-wing haven’t come out in support of Rozos’ First Amendment rights or spent much time defending Rumeyza Ozturk and Badar Khan Suri, pro-Palestinian immigrants who were kidnapped and detained without criminal charges.
From the start of Israel’s war, which has degenerated into a genocide, Jewish Americans have been at the forefront of protests and loudly called for a ceasefire and an end to occupation. Among them is Ben Cohen, co-founder of Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream, who disrupted RFK Jr’s hearing on Wednesday to protest military aid to Israel. "Congress kills poor kids in Gaza by buying bombs, and pays for it by kicking kids off Medicaid in the US," he said, handcuffed, when asked why he protested.
It seems the ugly bullying, smearing, and fear-mongering by hard-right Israel hawks isn’t stopping people from speaking out against genocide. If indeed politics is downstream from culture, then Prime Minister Netanyahu and his extremist cabinet have lost the kids. Unfortunately, they still have establishment Democrats who refuse to break from AIPAC's talking points and continue to ignore their base.
I invited my America Unhinged co-host Francesca Fiorentini to unpack these stories and discuss if the tide is finally turning and the majority can pressure the Democrats to stop unconditionally supporting Israel and its occupation of Palestinians.
