In the latest episode of Democracy-ish, Danielle and I talk about how the establishment and its institutions can not be trusted to save the masses and our democracy. To quote George Carlin, “It’s a big club, and you ain’t in it.”
Just yesterday, the Trump regime erased Juneteenth, also known as “Freedom Day.” If you needed more convincing, that was further proof that white supremacy and capitalism are the driving forces behind MAGA’s reason for being and quest for power.
Unfortunately, these sins aren’t limited to just MAGA. Today, we learned that Rep. Clyburn, a Democratic leader, is publicly supporting disgraced predator Andrew Cuomo in the contentious NYC mayor’s race. According to Rep. Clyburn, Cuomo has the “experience, credentials, and character to not just serve New York, but also help save the nation.” That’s probably why the Democratic establishment dumped Cuomo following his numerous scandals, but I digress. So, what influenced the whiplash and about-face? Well, that would be the emergence of Zohran Mamdani, a Muslim American, Democratic-Socialist candidate and challenger to Cuomo, who represents a massive threat to Wall Street, AIPAC, corporate donors, and the Democratic establishment.
The alleged “leaders” are perfectly fine throwing people of color and workers under the bus to keep lining their own pockets and placating the oligarchy that funds their races and lifestyles. Case in point, Lawrence Summers came out to take digs at Mamdani and claimed his program would be “extreme and dangerous for NYC,” even as he admitted he is not an expert in NYC economic policy. Racist ads against Mamdani are now being funded and aired 24/7 ahead of next week’s elections, and he has faced credible death threats.
None of this is surprising considering how Democrats refused to initially come out and support pro-Palestinian students and immigrants. Many even helped Republicans support the draconian Laken Riley Act because they were afraid of being seen as “weak” on border security and crime.
With a Democratic opposition like this, who needs Republicans? The same cowardice and complicity are on full display this week as corporate media and Republican chicken hawks bang the drums for war with Iran. Where is Senator Schumer and Rep. Jeffries? Quiet as a mouse fart. Instead, it’s the nutty “America First” base of MAGA, which includes Tucker Carlson and Rep. Greene, who are loudly opposing intervention.
