It is devastatingly sad to see the wealthiest folks participating in a vile soap opera when so many of the world's crises could be solved with a bit of heart and contribution.

Folks, we know who they are, we know what their products are. All we have to do is STOP BYING THE PRODUCTS. Am I missing something?

I continue to be bemused by millions who proclaim liberal bona fides, but remain addicted to Twitter, Instagram, and FB, and who enable these platforms to thrive.

I ditched them..don't need them. I have a phone and direct phone messages and now other platforms more to my liking. How long does it take for them to delete accounts these days. Took a long before before my twitter account was deleted a year ago. Now same for others....

Agreed. I just left Threads and Facebook. It’ll take longer with Instagram, as its pictures of flowers and art are, well, irresistible… But I agree with deciding not to do business with them.

I guess Politi-fact will still be a resource for people who care to know fact from fiction but their research will not change what has been posted on FB b/c FB will choose to ignore it... So FB will become just as bad as X. All these social platforms are delegitimatizing themselves and will become the digital tabloids that most people will consider irrelevant and a fake form of entertainment. Good!

Funny the same nerds that the bullies and jocks shoved in lockers in highschool and couldn't wait to grow up and lord their success over those same bullies and jocks, are the first to bend the knee to the biggest bully who ever lived. They should know from experience playing nice doesn't work with bullies you got to stand up to them and kick them in the balls. Make others laugh at them because nothing an insecure bully hates more than being the butt of a joke.

Excellent, colorfully worded essay on billionaires bending the knee for more wealth, false safety from retribution from a tyrant, and sucking up to authoritarian power rather than considering ways to benefit humanity.

One good thing may be that we all leave social media for good. I left Twitter because of the racist, Maga commentary, and I'll leave Instagram and FB after they do it too.

"Cuck"? Nay, a cock, a man-child of arrested-development character, a creature sitting on > $200bn net worth, yet impoverished of ethics and humanity...fuck him.

Pretty much the definition of a sociopath, many of whom succeed in business because ruthlessness is in their DNA.

I'm kinda confused didn't Zuck say less filters hence more transparency. Also for community dialogue as push back against biased fact checkers. Aren't these good moves for freedom of expression in the ether of social media companies. Be more carefull of what you protest against. Me thinkest you douth protest to much in this commentary.

IMO Zuck pushed the needle for more transparency not less. Not so?

Zuck is said to own almost the entirety of one island, not the entirety which I hope is inhabited by the world's most annoying neighbor.
