MAGA and GOP elected officials always cry victimhood and complain about liberal bias even though they have privilege, power and wealth. One of their biggest targets is “liberal media” which is comical considering that mainstream, corporate media is dominated by right-wing voices. FOX is the most watched cable news network. Sinclair Broadcasting owns most of the nation’s TV stations. Right-wing radio domination has led to right-wing domination of podcasts and social media. Some of the biggest podcast hosts in 2024 are anti-semitic nuts Tucker Carlson & Candace Owens, and now the Hawk Tuah girl. (I have obviously failed in life. Woe is me.)
However, these extremists don’t represent the majority. Those who vote Democrat or support liberal policies have the numbers but we lack the resources, money, and the juggernaut media ecosystem of the right. How can we can fight back and create some balance?
I talked to Kurt Bardella for some answers.
Bardella is a Democratic advisor and contributor to NewsNation who passionately warns about the threat of MAGA and Trump to our democracy. He just launched a new Substack Kurt Takes where he gives his advice on how liberals can create messages and narratives that resonate and also go on offense against a right-wing minority that is perpetually outraged and will never be pleased with concessions and civility. Bardella should know because in the past he worked as a spokesperson and senior advisor for Republicans on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. He helped develop the modern right-wing media playbook, and now he wants to defeat it.
