Most Republican voters trust Donald Trump, a convicted felon, habitual liar, and twice-impeached vulgarian, more than their pastors, family members, and right-wing media. Most GOP voters also believe in the lie that Trump won the 2020 election, which he soundly lost to President Biden. Many of his supporters were inspired to engage in a violent insurrection to steal our free and fair election.
These folks are no longer just the fringe, but they increasingly represent the conservative mainstream. Election deniers are sitting in office, right-wing media is comfortable spewing hateful conspiracies and lies, and former Trump officials who aren’t in jail are trying to refine their failed coup for 2024.
Reed Galen understands the threat of this right-wing movement because he spent his adult life helping GOP candidates like John McCain and Mitt Romney. However, he says the GOP of the past is officially dead and now belongs entirely to Trump. He joins me to make the case for why the entire conservative movement must be defeated in order to preserve our democracy. (Subscribe to his substack!)
He warns that it won’t end with a Trump defeat in 2024 but this is instead a long-term project that requires the majority’s perpetual vigilance, hard-work, and dedication to ensure our democracy can be strengthened and protected from a right-wing movement that has abandoned all limits, morals, and ethics for the selfish pursuit of power and minoritarian rule.
Sit back and give us a listen!
